Israeli authorities have taken to warning citizens not to post locations of rocket attacks or air raid sirens on social media.

They are worried that geo-tagging of posts on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram could offer others sensitive information.

Nevertheless, tens of thousands of users of those three social media networks have been sharing pictures as part of the propaganda war.

Here are the some of the most popular images we’ve spotted that people are sharing.

One thing’s for sure, we all need to pick one side and support them uncritically.

I’m glad to see commentators on both sides are treating this conflict reasonably and proportionately, with an apprecation of the nuances and complexity of the situation…

Two intelligent comments on an Israel/Palestine thread? This trend will never last.

@1,
Any side in particular?

@4

Nah we can each choose one particular side. However depending on which side you choose this will also dictate your views of taxation, spending, gay marriage, abortion, immigration, faith and a whole variety of other views ;)

Informed debate is so undemocratic! ;D

(I jest obviously, but I get just a tad annoyed when as soon as you know which set of newspapers a person reads you know which political parties they will support around the world and which views they will hold to 88% of the time (I say 88% because it sounds like I’m quoting research when in reality it’s just what it feels like, I think because the balanced ones are either too apathetic or just can’t be arsed to shout about it).)

@3 Presumably you’re appreciating the sarcasm in those posts?! :D Or maybe you’re not and you’re being sarcastic yourself? Although that would probably mean your final not sarcastic. I’m now trying to work out whether this comment is sarcastic…

Okay, so I agree with gay marriage, abortion and immigration. What side does that put me on?

(Taxation and spending also, but that’s a bit vague).

@8
By my extremely-well researched methodology (I’m not sure if this is sarcasm, exaggeration or just outright lying) you have to support Palestine, read the Guardian (and actively contribute to its comments section), and be a reasonably-disillusioned Labour voter (who thinks that at least Ed is doing better than Tony, and far better than those heartless betrayers – led by Nick Clegg the son of Thatcher – the Liberal Democrats). You will also unequivocally support Obama, despite mild misgivings about his foreign policy, and are pleased that Mitt Romney was not allowed to enact his policies of eating women alive. You also give tentative support to the new democracies in Egypt and Libya, despite the fact they are dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, partially because you heard the EDL say lots of negative things about Islamism and as a result instilled a sense of defence of Islam as a peaceful religion, and thus overlook the severe abuses of women’s rights (and other human rights) that you protest so fervently in domestic politics.

Let me know whether I need to rebalance the ‘algorithm’ ;)

Obviously the converse would be you support Israel, read the Telegraph/Mail/Express(possibly The Times), largely don’t like the EU or immigration, are dubious towards abortion and don’t think there should be gay marriage. You are a disillusioned Conservative voter seriously thinking about voting UKIP next time (and really don’t like that liberal Clegg with his daft left-wing influence on the coalition). You know Obama sounds great and some of Romney’s policies area bit dubious, but think he should be given a chance because the economy isn’t doing great. You don’t think the UK should be involved with any of this Middle East stuff because it is wasting British tax payers’ money and killing our troops.

(I hope I haven’t left anything out ;D)

Thanks Chris, absolutely spot-on in both cases.

The last picture. The one at the bottom. Extremely poignant.

Loving this thread. Chris, and the images, sum up exactly why I stopped having an opinion on the Israel v Palestine match a long time ago.

This Harry’s Place article might be a place to pick up on though. It’s a reply to a previous post on there by Peter Tatchell and is titled:

”Why Israel’s Unilateral Withdrawal From Palestinian Territory Will Deliver Neither Peace Nor Justice”
http://hurryupharry.org/2012/11/25/why-israels-unilateral-withdrawal-from-palestinian-territory-will-deliver-neither-peace-nor-justice/

Even though it seems impossible to have constructive dialogue about the subject (particularly on that site) – the points raised should at least be noted.
I tend to agree with many of the points raised, even if I disagree with the overall rubber-stamping of Israeli intransigence going back decades and blaming it all on the Arabs.
