Watch: Mackenzie hits C4 journalist over Hillsborough

Except for a written apology last week, in which Kelvin MacKenzie said he wished he’d written ‘The Lie’ instead, he has not given any interviews at all since the publication of last week’s Hillsborough report.
Today, Channel 4 News repeatedly called him requesting an interview.
So this morning they went to his house.
Mr Mackenzie explained he was in the middle of writing an article for The Spectator and did not wish to do a TV interview with me. He then added: “F*** off.”

Mackenzie is a twat but if someone did that to me, especially with their pretend civility and smugness I would have just reversed my car
Best UK news TV clip I’ve seen in a while. I note various humourless dicks from the usual suspects plus the Beeb have already condemned it on Twitter.
I also note Kelvin’s tell-all will be in the Spectator. Makes sense I guess.
Did I miss the part where he hit him?
Well that was a disappointment. Not sure what’s going on with Sunny’s titles recently but it’s getting a bit out of hand.
I was there at Hillsborough and watched people die horribly. Then a few days later, as a consensus was building around the cause of the disaster, (that it was mainly the failure of the police) Kelvin MacKenzie did the bidding of his masters and chucked a bit spanner in the works.
It did the job as intended and deflected the blame away from the guilty for over 23 years. The fact that in the process it also smeared the innocent seemed to be of little concern to Mr MacKenzie for so long.
He didn’t care about the truth then and I don’t believe he does now. He seeks to protect his ‘reputation’ by running away to The Spectator editor to get a nice cushy interview.
Oh and by the way the editor of The Spectator was so engrossed with news of the Hillsborough Report last week that he failed to include a single mention of it on his twitter feed.
Not sure what’s going on with Sunny’s titles recently but it’s getting a bit out of hand.
All the new posts go up on Twitter, where a nice short catchy title gets enthusiastically retweeted by lots of people, who often won’t bother to read the story itself. Hence the fashion for wildly OTT and misleading headlines. This used to be reserved for Sunny’s sidebar of shame (TM), but since the rebranding it’s leaked out into the rest of the site.
The point is the creep will not answer questions about Hillsborough unless it is on his own nice safe ground.
We are ready up here on Merseyside if he wants to come and atone for his lies. No, instead he hides out in his luxury home before his ‘exclusive’ interview with The Spectator.
It isn’t very nice when you are not treated with courtesy is it Mr MacKenzie? Well you would know since you have been doing it to everybody else for the whole of your journalistic life Kelvin.
John b…
Have you got a link to the tweet where the Beeb condemned it? I’d like to see that.
I look forward to MacKenzie’s explanation as to why it took him 23 years to finally realise that the fans had been telling the truth all along, and that there had been an orchestrated cover to prevent the role of authorities in the 96 deaths from becoming widely known.
Did MacKenzie have any inkling after the interim Taylor report, or final report (1989)
Or perhaps he began to have doubts after the coroners inquest in 1990-1?
Did the judicial review in 1993 cause MacKenzie to doubt the Sun’s infamous, and damaging headlines?
The scrutiny of evidence in 1997 provided a new window for MacKenzie to consider his position – with a further opportunity in 2000 when Duckenfield was brought before the courts in a private prosecution.
Apparently not – on 30th Nov 2006 MacKenzie said “I went on the World At One the next day and apologised. I only did that because Rupert Murdoch told me to. I wasn’t sorry then and I’m not sorry now because we told the truth. There was a surge of Liverpool fans who had been drinking and that is what caused the disaster.”
Mackenzie only apologised …….. because Rupert told him to!!
I wouldn’t want to be the journalist at the Spectator trying to find out if MacKenzie’s latest apology actually means anything this time.
Isn’t there a danger that the stink from the former sun hardman is so rotten that it might contaminate anybody who spends more than 5 minutes in a room with him?
To the a&e charge nurse-Pesky things those facts aren’t they?
What made the scales fall from his eyes? The BBC contract not being renewed, the frequent appearances on Question Time being threatened? It certainly was not due to the facts being so clear as you demonstrate so beautifully in your post.
The man will do anything so save his media career and The Spectator seems willing to lend him a hand.
Thanks again to ‘the a&e charge nurse’-More of a journalist than MacKenzie will ever be.
I take it that the hitting referred to Mackenzie bumping the journo with his car door. A misleading headline which would be more at home in a down market tabloid.
This said I’m glad to see Mackenzie receiving the same treatment that his journalists have given to plenty of people over the years. Once people start routing through their bins and stalking their families then they might get a feeling of what they have done to others.
Alex Thomson himself said he hit him with the door of his car. The headline is technically accurate.
Hi Andy – we can expect more cloak & daggers from MacKenzie, assuming he is brave enough to speak to the spectator in any detail.
We pretty well know in advance that he will blame his sources, he might blame the Scum’s hierarchy – he may even have the nerve to insist that fans played their part.
In other words MacKenzie will continue to blame everybody … apart from the role played by himself.
Those directly affected by his lies can at least take a few crumbs of comfort from the fact an indelible link has been forged in the public’s mind between MacKenzies dysfunctional behaviour and the role such unsavoury characters play in our MSM.
I feel sure this unenviable reputation will haunt him for what’s left of his professional life – let’s hope so, eh?
@12
You really are silly sometimes.
Trust C4 News to make KM look a harassed victim.
Im no fan of KM but this headline (technically accurate or otherwise) is extremely biased. I am shocked that C4 would harrass him like that- it encourages sympathy for KM and is bad for their reputation.
@14, err..not sure harassed victim is accurate, more like a worthless piece of shit, a liar, a racist, a rabid, proselytising pimp, a nonce, a sexist slag and a tub-thumping, redneck bully but you say tomato and I say fully paid up member of the BBC. Each to their own.
@11. Chris: “This said I’m glad to see Mackenzie receiving the same treatment that his journalists have given to plenty of people over the years. Once people start routing through their bins and stalking their families then they might get a feeling of what they have done to others.”
If Alex Thomson had delivered this as a parody or demonstration of repugnant doorstep bullying by journalists, he’d have made a good story. But he didn’t have that wit. Instead he blundered in as self proclaimed upholder of virtues of truth and honesty, making Mackenzie look like a reasonable man.
You do not beat a muck raker by acting as a muck raker; the same argument applies to anti-fascists who oppose fascists by imitating their tactics.
@12 – If i claim you raped me can you print an article about it? Because that would technically accurate, except it didn’t happen.
@12 The phrase “technically accurate” is never a good justification for anything.
I can’t claim to own a Ferrari because I have a airfix model of one. Technically true but it is still a deception.
@17 You are right. It doesn’t do you any favours to sink to their level but from my perspective it is entertaining to see someone like Mackenzie get a taste of their own medicine.
MacKenzie obviously didn’t hit Alex Thomson. Thomson prevented MacKenzie from closing his car door by putting his body in the door space. And kept on preventing MacKenzie closing the door even when the car was moving.
A slightly amusing stunt I suppose. MacKenzie is pretty unlikable. His worst ever healine was the ”Gotcha” one IMO.
Alex Thomson is a serious journalist, so this was a bit silly. Harmless, but a bit pointless.
But then, I don’t like political stunts, and some people love them (direct action etc).
One of the curious aspects of the version of Hillsborough served up by MacKenzie is how enduring the scum’s lies became (as well as the lack of any sort of culpability).
A respected police blogger (Inspector Gadget) recently added his apology for the way senior colleagues behaved, and called for a full investigation into the role played by the police (IG was never directly involved in Hillsborough) – yet one commenter (colin the cop) starts by saying – ‘So this report clearing the Liverpool fans who forced their way into an already full stadium without tickets of any wrongdoing was chaired by the Bishop of Liverpool.
And it’s claimed to be independent…?
Col’ goes onto to say – ‘I’ve not read the report but my understanding of what caused the tragedy is a whole load of pissed up football supporters trying to force their way into an already full football stadium without tickets. I’m not suggesting the Police response was without flaws, but every reaction is caused by someone’s actions. Perhaps it those actions that are at fault rather than a subsequent reaction’.

I’m sure this sort of stuff must have brought a silent tear to Kelvin’s eye.
To be fair several commentators try their best to gently educate ‘Colin the cop’ but sadly he appears to have been so brainwashed that, rather like the red-top hardman himself, he has become too dyed in the wool to change his opinion now.
John L: journos from the Beeb on their personal twitter accounts, not the Beeb as an organisation.
Please can I have this virus’s address?
What do you expect from a lump of turd such as MacKenzie is, what with this, the end of the NOTW and the forthcoming trials of other News International employees, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as poetic justice.
[24] ‘What do you expect from a lump of turd such as MacKenzie’ – not a man who let’s history get in the way of his sales figures.
