Syrians wonder why Muslims aren’t rioting over them

As violent protests over the anti-Islam film trailer have spread, Syrians on Twitter have increasingly wondered why there isn’t similar outrage over their predicament.
I am in no way condoning the attack on the US embassy. But it seems there is more uproar over that than the ~33,000 martyrs in #Syria. :/

Dear Muslims. Our Prophet would be far more offended by daily murders of Syrians by Assad than any disrespectful film.

Update another point to make: The US Embassy in Tunis was breached by rioters, who replaced the US flag with black banner of al Qaeda. The people rioting aren’t ordinary Muslims.

Er, most Syrians are Muslims, aren’t they?
The Arab Spring is in great danger from an Islamist counter-revolution. The film makers and the Islamists are in cahoots. Remember the lessons of Iran and do not fall for the pseudo anti-imperialism of the Islamists, feudal theocrats or for imperialist or zionist provocation. It is an excellent question to ask: why aren’t these `islamists’ outraged by the daily slaughter by the Assad butcher who is killing young Muslim children and blowing up mosques on a daily basis.
Never mind this wretched piece of garbage film, Arabs must concentrate on the downfall of the remaining tyrants and the consolidation of their democratic revolutions. That is the best, only and true way to fight imperialism not this pseudo outrage and isolate all its agents and agencies in the ME from Israel to the Sauds.
There are certain things it makes a lot more sense to protest (or riot) about. Protesting against a film-maker making a particular film makes perfect sense, since one could imagine public outrage having an impact on a film-maker/film’s reception. Protesting against a foreign dictator makes far less sense since it is transparently pointless- rather like ‘protesting’ against Hitler’s foreign policy (for one outside Nazi Germany).
@ Ben,
I fear you may be trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted. Much of the violence in Syria is at the hands of salafist elements backed by the theocrats.
Which Syrians? The ones getting terrorised, abused, tortured and slaughtered by the islamist rebels, who would otherwise be storming western embassies in Damascus?
Salafis: The very Americans helped you get over Qaddafi. Why attack US gov for an individual act.
You mislead the world so blatantly. The fact remains that most massacres are being done by Islamist rebels supported by West who fly the very same flags that the embassy attackers were flying. And most Syrians on twitter were mocking USA that is this what you want for the future ambassador to Damuscus as well?
Muaaz bin Mohammad
> You mislead the world so blatantly.
Who is ‘you’?
> The fact remains that most massacres are being done by Islamist rebels supported by West .
Any evidence for that?
The Muslim extremists and fundamental extremist Islamists are worse than Nazis. At the end of the war, the Nazis tried to cover their tracks, hoping they could hide their crimes. They were afraid of retribution, and they were ashamed. How do we know this? Because, like children who knew they had been discovered, they tried to lie their way out: We didn’t know, I was just following orders, etc.
The extreme radical Islamists, on the other hand, have no shame about anything they have done. They do not try to hide anything. To the contrary, they are proud of their actions.
This is why, at the end of the day, the German people could come back from the abyss into which they had fallen. Their shame at what they had done allowed them to rejoin civilization.
The extreme Islamists have no shame. How can they be part of the civilized world? I call upon moderate Muslim IMAMS AND LEADERS IN THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY. TO SPEAK OUT. Those who are rioting are a small minority. The moderate Muslims are not at fault and have been dragged into this horrible enviroment where many of them and their families are help hostage and murdered. . Rabbi Dr. BERNHARD ROSENBERG
Come on, does this really need answering?
We all know the following how the following stories run:
A. Christians fighting with Muslims – Outrage / big story,
B. Jews fighting with Muslims – Greater outrage / even bigger story,
C. Muslims fighting with Muslims – No outrage/ no story, mind your own business and wait for A or B.
The sort of people who would be rioting are busy actually fighting – and executing captured Syrian soldiers. So the extremists have more productive things to do than drag American ambassadors’ corpses through the streets.
We can expect that once they have won.
In the meantime notice that some Sunnis are actually killing Alawis in Lebanon even though there is no connection between the Syrian government and the Alawi community of Lebanon at all. They belong to the same sect and that is enough.
Which is why they do not riot against the West. It is a tribal mentality. We are not of the tribe. Nor are the Alawis, but we are not the same tribe. Thus killing Leon Klinghoffer, an American Jew, was a perfectly reasonable act by the standards of the Middle East. He may never have been near Israel, but he was a member of the tribe. Western and Jewish. But killing Westerners over the Alawi government of Syria does not make sense because we do not belong to the same tribal group.
@ rosenberg
I bet five shiny pennies that you’re not an actual rabbi.
They are not protesting against Syrian attrocities because there would be no point in doing so- it would have no impact on Assad’s behaviour. Moreover, many of the protesters are anti-American because of the US’s terrible history of intervention in the Middle East, such as in Iraq, Afghanistan and, indirectly, Palestine. This is hardly surprising.
The underlying assuption of this article is strange. It of course depends on the circumstances. Nobody protests against everything they think is wrong with the world- there would be little time for anything else if one did
`The Muslim extremists and fundamental extremist Islamists are worse than Nazis.’
But not worse than Zionists who are engaged in a very real genocide based on the search for lebensraum at the expense of others.
So Much for Subtlety
> Which is why they do not riot against the West.
Who is ‘they’ in your sentence?
Because in the middle east there is a lot of anti-west sentiment, protesting, rioting, preaching in Mosques and etc – isn’t there?
13. Ben
They are not protesting against Syrian attrocities because there would be no point in doing so- it would have no impact on Assad’s behaviour.
Sure. We are weak and spineless. So as Baby Assad but less so. They would not have dared to do this to his Father. But it is nice to see you spelling it out – they recognise we are weak and can be intimidated.
Moreover, many of the protesters are anti-American because of the US’s terrible history of intervention in the Middle East, such as in Iraq, Afghanistan and, indirectly, Palestine. This is hardly surprising.
Bollocks. America’s intervention in the Middle East, as elsewhere, is almost entirely benign. Where would the Middle East be without the American Universities in Cairo and Beirut?
Manny

I note that LC as a whole, from moderators down to ordinary posters, are willing to allow this anti-semitism to go totally unchallenged.

Who is ‘they’ in your sentence?
The sort of people who would usually riot.
Because in the middle east there is a lot of anti-west sentiment, protesting, rioting, preaching in Mosques and etc – isn’t there?
Sure. But not in this case over this topic.
But not worse than Zionists who are engaged in a very real genocide based on the search for lebensraum at the expense of others.
I think I might have just swallowed a little bit of sick.
`I think I might have just swallowed a little bit of sick.’
You might strain on that. Try an elephant.
. . . The seperation of muslims into countries and nations has cost them their unity and mutual love, the solution lies in understanding that all muslims are equal, this is not achieved except by actualising this through some form of action, so when when Sayyidunaa Muhammad Our Prophet prayers and salutations from Allah be upon him is insulted we actualise our love for him and the offense taken in some form or another
However due to our detachment from our brethren all accross the world, when they are harmed or insulted we dont show much of a reaction . . . It is a spiritual death that has besieged us and we dont even strive to break out and really experience live really BE MUSLIM
The same should be said about Palestine, Pak, Afg, Iraq etc
Once we achieve some form of spiritual progress and the ummah’s main problem is a lack of spirituality, only then can the calls of the Syrian people be replied to, until then my dear brothers know that victory is with patience and relief comes with hardship and for surely wuth dufficulty there is facility
