Miliband: we don’t need privatisation of policing

Labour leader Ed Miliband will today make a speech saying the G4S fiasco was evidence there should be a halt on government moves to massively increase private sector involvement in policing.
He will also call for a moratorium on any new public money being awarded to G4S after a failure that “beggared belief”.
He will address a gathering of Labour candidates first elected as Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales.
He will say: “Before they are awarded any new policing contracts, we need a review of G4S’s ability to deliver.”

I wonder if the real life rise of OCP equivalents will turn out somewhat similar to the Movie Robocop. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Or, less optimistically, Judge Dredd.
Or even less optimistically, Colombia

I don’t think there’d be remotely enough money to be made out of the Mega-City One policing model for the likes of cowboys like G4S. The training would be very labour and capital intensive, and all those Lawgivers, Lawmasters and Manta prowl tanks would be exorbitantly expensive. You can hardly imagine G4S coughing up for all that stuff… or indeed, being able to get it together enough to manage it!
@3 Well I suppose to get to Colombia we don’t first have to turn the majority of the world into a mutant filled wasteland with mega cities dotted about the place, we merely need a complete total breakdown of consent toward being policed and following the law.

True. More like Judge Mildly Threatening.
I’d read the shit out of Judge Mildly Threatening.

“I’d read the shit out of Judge Mildly Threatening.”
Judge, jury and parking-ticket enforcer.
The Mega-City One Judges are brutal but impartial, and while harsh but fair to the point of summary execution might appeal to Daily Mail readers it wouldn’t exactly be popular with corporate crooks and politicians who’d soon find themselves enjoying the facilities on Titan.
A preferable idea would be to get the Dark Judges on contract:
“The crime is poverty….the sentence is workfare”
(Milliband) will say: “Before they are awarded any new policing contracts, we need a review of G4S’s ability to deliver.” Because Labour sure as hell won’t do anything about it if they get back into power.
