In early 2009, acclaimed filmmaker Emily James began filming the clandestine activities of several environmental groups: Climate Camp, Climate Rush and Plane Stupid.

Allowed unprecedented access, her footage shows us the people behind the politics, providing the often overlooked human element to their story as we watch them take on the combined forces of global capitalism, run-away climate change and the pesky metropolitan police.

Having decided to make the film entirely independently, Emily and her team embarked on a crowd-funding campaign to raise the money for production. They raised £20,000 in 20 days online.

Just Do It! had its world premiere at Sheffield Doc/Fest, was screened in 45 cinemas up and down the country, a Dogwoof DVD release and campus screenings where 77 universities showed the film on the same day. This year has seen the film release in the US.

Going behind the scenes of the secretive world of direct action into unchartered territory, Just Do It is a unique look at the planning and plotting behind the mass media headlines.

You can now download or stream the film direct from the Just Do It website or watch it below.

Is it just me who wonders this, but do these exciting and high-profile actions mostly tend towards an elitist vanguardism that makes protester groups feel better about themselves but actually alienate ordinary folk far more than making us change our destructive modern day-to-day behaviour for the better?

The “ooh, we’re such rebels!” tone of the video (or at least the trailer) doesn’t help any, although that’s not the campaigners’ fault.

@2: I’ve said as much several times on LC, but it seems no criticism of such movements gets even a moment’s look-in from the mods. They like it, and support such actions and movements …. and that’s it.
Any other view is put down to sour grapes or contrarianism …. and so best ignored.
I went and saw this film at the cinema after Sunny promoted it on his other website. I said how I found it cringeworthy and embarrassing to watch.
It was, but maybe that’s just me. The ”movement” depicted in the films is quite quite terrible IMO. Maybe one day we’ll have a discussion as to why that might be.
