Labour, Libdems, Greens form pact in London

Labour, Libdem and Greens in London have formed a pact for the first time, which sets out the terms by which Assembly Members will share power and keep an eye on Boris.
It could have huge repercussions for politics in London, especially since the Conservatives are now a minority administration.
The pact also includes a number of positions for the Conservative Group.
It states:
It is important the performance of the Mayor and all the GLA’s Functional Bodies, as well as other organisations that run public services in London, are scrutinised in depth and held to account. We are open to more constructive working between the Assembly and the Mayor over the four year term.
The agreement will last for four years but will be subject to review after two years.
It is agreed that Labour will Chair the Assembly in the first, third and fourth years.
There will be a Green Chair in the second year. There will be a Green Deputy Chair in the first year and a Labour Deputy Chair in the second year.
They say they hope the Conservative Group will nominate a Deputy Chair for the final two years.

I have a secret document which indicates that the leader of the pact will be a gigantic seal, about 4 times the size of a normal seal, and when Boris does wrong it make a “HHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSS!!” sound.
Remember that the Lib Dems can’t be trusted. The current coalition isn’t the first time they’ve got in bed with the Tories.
@Bobby I like you.
@2 Lib Dems can’t be trusted – to do what? To be Labour’s lackeys when you’d pinned your hopes on them being an extra anti-Tory party for you to vote for?
“The Conservatives are now a minority administration”.
They’re not, actually. The Assembly needs a 2/3 majority to amend Boris’ budget. The Tories hold 9 AMs out of 25 so they can still veto any budget amendments.

To be a moderating effect on the Tories, as claimed? To vote against things they promised they would vote against even in a coalition? That sorta thing?

I’ve never really understood this. How or why would Orange Book LibDems have a ‘moderating effect’ on the Tories? I know they claimed they would but still…
@Chris – The Lib Dems cant be trusted? So we should automatically trust Labour even though theyre forming council coalitions with the Tories in Scotland?
So the losers all get together to try to stop Boris from doing anything. then what? Will they claim that he is a waste of an opportunity because they don’t want him to do anything? Playground politics at its worst.

I guess the Lib Dems like looking nice whereas the Tories like looking “tough”. That’s on the financial side – socially the Lib Dems are, well, liberal, which is hugely different from the current policy of the Conservative Party.

No, democracy in action; there is little point whingeing about the result, it is what it is. If Boris doesn’t have the seats to stop an opposing Coalition, then he only won in the sense that his party may be the biggest one. Few people voted for the ConDem coalition… but that is what the electoral arithmetic (and the LD’s naivete) delivered.
I don’t particularly “like” the fact that (as Josh points out @8 above) that Labour are forming colaitions with the Tories in scotland to keep the SNP out of power in some local authorities, but it is just a fact of electoral life. With luck it will blow up in their faces as Scottish electors will find it fairly unpalatable, in much the same way that a large sector of LD’s voters deserted them 2 years ago.
A Labour/LD/Green coalition (or SNP/Labour in Scotland) is on the face of it a much more natural “fit” than the Tory/Labour ones in Scotland, or Tory/LD in 2010. In Scotland the fact that Labour can seriously entertain a pact with the Tories rather than the SNP speaks volumes for their lack of imagination, atavistic hatred of scottish nationalism, and their intellectual bankruptcy.
