Watch: Greek fascists storm conference

Yesterday, Nikos Michaloliakos, the leader of the Greek neonazi group “Golden Dawn”, delivered this Hitler-style speech after his group has entered the parliament with almost 7%.

It shows the scene at the Golden Dawn victory press conference.

As the leader was walking in, a henchmen shouts at the journalists to rise up. Those who didn’t were told to leave.

I suppose “Greek fascists make journalists stand up” isn’t a very interesting headline, but it’s a fuck of a lot more honest than your current one.

Calling 7% a “victory” is a bit over the top.

I wouldn’t have thought the Greek Fascists – as distasteful as they probably are – were the problem.

The fact that the Greek Communists, as one of the more shamelessly Stalinist Communist parties back in the day, beat them with some 8.5% of the vote is a bigger problem.

As is the fact that some of the slightly less shameless comrades in another splinter group from the Communist party Syriza, came second, beating the corrupt but mostly democratic Pasok into third place.

Almost a quarter of all Greeks voted for parties with a background in Stalinist apologetics and would-be collaboration.

Quite unbelievable.

This is actually quite a scary video. Considering the economic situation in Greece, and the possibility that it could get even worse, Golden Dawn have an historic opportunity. They may seem head-bangers but they are operating in unbelievably propitious circumstances right now.

He makes Nick Griffin look like a reasonable chap. Worrying although the far-right is in a better position in other European countries. Fortunately in the UK they have very little influence at the moment.

@1. Yes, asking someone to stand up isn’t that dramatic thing to happen but the fellow didn’t really seem to be asking though. Maybe it’s because I’m English but I don’t trust people who can’t ask politely.
