Former Tory MP: angry MPs are “pond life”

The in-fighting continues apace today; I’m going to have trouble keeping up at this rate.
Former Conservative MP Jerry Hayes has launched a counter-attack on the ConservativeHome website and Nadine Dorries et al, calling them a trouble-makers and “lower than pond life”.
But the cult of Boris will be used and abused to attack Cameron. He will be the lightening conductor for every embittered, passed over, swivel eyed, green inker, True Tory, Brussels obsessed loon that inhabit the backbenchers by day and the blogosphere at night.
They are the ones, the Bones, the Hollobones, the Jacksons, the Priti Patels, the Pritchards and the Nadine Dorrieses of the political lower pond life who are desperate to destroy the Cameroons.
Of course, Number 10 regard them as a bit of a joke which irritates them even more, but they are given succour by Conservative Home who claim to be the voice of the grass roots but are really a pressure group with an agenda to bring us back to the Halcyon days of Iain Duncan Smith and Michael Howard. Hardly a week goes by without some survey about how the country is crying out for an in out referendum and how Cameron and his cronies need to listen. They are the ones who are encouraging back benchers to publish their own agenda for change, putting up a slate for the 1922 committee and want the Conservative party to engage with the Kippers.
Now all of this is splendid fun if you are running a sixth form debating society but corrosive if you are trying to keep in power.
Get the popcorn, light up the barbeque, call your friends and grab some chairs. This is going to be a lot of fun.
I said last week that Tory in-fighting was going to explode. I think it just has.

Is there anything we can do to help Dorries, Montgomerie et al in their quest? Maybe do some organising, raise them some publicity? Post some leaflets for them?
Yes, do it! Tack the Conservative Party to the hard right, completely alienate the Lib Democrats, tear the coalition asunder and go into a new election having annoyed all the centrist swing voters!
DO IT! DO IT!
Dorries et al seem to be gazing over at the Tea Party in America with envious eyes. What their movement needs is a name that’s a British version of the tea party, any suggestions?
Jerry Hayes is always trying to wind up the Right, this isn’t anything new.
Yes, it is fun to watch these morally bankrupt asset strippers squabble. But it isn’t stopping them from dismantling the NHS, or denying welfare to needy unemployed/disabled people. While they bicker and tear into each other, are Labour deciding where they stand? Are they going to overturn everything these looting, freeloaders have done? I doubt it.
Always remember that in these peoples mind conservatism can never fail. It can only be failed. The re writing of the Bush presidency is in full swing. The verdict is he was not conservative enough.
Sally: “The verdict is [GW Bush] was not conservative enough.”
That was sooo predictable.
Perhaps the really interesting insight is that mainstream observers of American politics – such as The Economist – are expressing concerns about the increasingly partisan political scene there and the observable tendencies towards extremism among Republicans. Doubts are being expressed about the future stability of the American political system or the possibility of more-or-less permanent stalemates in Congress. We can but await the outcome of the Presidential and Congressional elections there in November but it comes to something when a commentator in the FT reports that centre-right parties in Europe are quietly hoping for Obama to win.
Yes The republicans get more right wing every year. Eisenhower would be too left wing for them now, and probably for the Democrats too. As they also have moved to the right. Nixon would be far too left wing now for the nuts. After all he was someone who had concerns about the environment. Environment is now seen as communist.
Even Reagan would struggle seeing as he was prepared to raise taxes, and work with the Democrats. Both issues are now seen as treason in the modern republican party. Main stream Republicanism used to be in favour of science. But that now has gone as everything has to be checked by the Christian right to see if God would approve.
The war on women continues apace. The Republicans and the Taliban become more the same. And that is where cons home want to go.
