Poll spells disaster for Tories in local elections

A new poll by the company Survation has found that Tories will face a huge drubbing in local elections in a few days time.

Their local elections poll found a massive 17 point drop in support for the Conservatives, with a swing of 12.5% to Labour.

Labour were also much more trusted to protect local services by voters.

The poll was conducted for the Daily Mirror.

I’m sure the next budget will declare a new infrastructure-building initiative to get the economy pumping again: 30ft walls around Tory controlled areas to keep the poor out.

Surely it’s a win-win for the Tories to lose areas though? They only seem to want to spend money in those areas and their tried-and-test trickle-up policies mean that money will go to fewer and fewer areas, resulting in less people getting an even bigger share of the economic cake. That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Just which government required DEFRA to run umpteen different formulae for allocating funds to local authorities until it found which one gave the biggest slice to Labour-controlled councils and cut most from conservative-led ones?

I am fairly sure that Labour will lose some councils in Scotland.

I wouldn’t be too sure of that just now. Salmond’s been taking a bit of heat recently about the Jeremy Hunt and Donald Trump controversies. I just wish I could vote Labour on Thursday but I can’t because the Labour candidate for my ward is renowned as an arsehole who’s only out for himself.

So vote Lib Dem as a protest – an abstention will be ignored. The best way to get rid of a **** is to show the local party that he/she lost the seat which any reasonable candidate would have won.

@3 Would that have been New Labour? A party that had moved to the right of my own politics? I’m no cheerleader for much of what they did.

Also, to play Devil’s Advocate, why did these areas get ‘special treatment’? Was it because they’d been left to rot since 1979?

Nah I can’t vote for them on principle and right wing parties need not apply. I would like to vote Labour but can’t, so it’s vote for the Greens and SNP.
