Is this why Dan Hodges hates Ken?

A source alerted me to the fact that Dan Hodges used to work at Transport for London as the Tube’s PR chief.

In 2007 TfL sacked Emma Clarke, who recorded the automated announcements on the Tube. She was apparently dismissed for creating some spoof announcements and criticising TfL in the press.

Dan Hodges issued a joke press statement about her firing, saying she could experience “severe delays” in getting more work.

According to press reports he was removed from his job just months after being appointed.

I haven’t found anything to suggest Ken Livingstone was responsible. But he was Mayor at the time, had overall responsibility for TfL and a reputation for interfering.

Does Dan Hodges blame Ken for getting him fired?

The Going Underground blog wrote at the time: “Personally I wouldn’t feel too sorry for [Dan Hodges] as it appears that he’s now in line for a nice pay off, even though he’d only been in the role for a few months and is on a six figure salary.”

I know that if I got fired from a job where I got paid six-figure sums for issuing press releases, I’d be pretty annoyed too.

And there was me thinking it might be because Hodges can see Livingstone is a vile shit who, if elected, would lead Labour down a blind alley. Still, let’s not let Occam’s Razor in the way of a nice conspiracy theory, eh?

The details of this article explain a lot about the mystery of charlatan Dan.

@ test – Livingston didn’t lead Labour down a blind alley before when he was Mayor. As far as I can see he did a lot of good for London.

It’s hardly a mystery as to why a Blairite would hate Ken Livingstone…

I didnt know Hodges was Glenda Jackson’s son? Where did she go wrong?

After all why possible reason otherwise could anyone have?

This is bizarre.

Why would a TfL PR person (Hodges) be fired for making a flippant comment about someone who had been fired for bringing TfL into disrepute and thus justifying TfL’s reason for firing them?

It makes no sense.

Are you saying Ken Livingstone supported Emma Clarke after she slagged of TfL in the press? Are you saying Ken fired Hodges for being snide about someone who had been fired for damaging TfL?

What exactly are you saying?

This article makes no sense. Why would Livingstone care one way or another about this.

I think the premise of the article is that the possibility that a Labour supporter might genuinely think Ken was a crap candidate is manifestly implausible and therefore there must be some other explanation.

“I know that if I got fired from a job where I got paid six-figure sums for issuing press releases, I’d be pretty annoyed too.”

Yeah I don’t blame you especially as you issue Labour’s here for free!

I wonder if Hodges got £200,000 as a pay-off like Ken’s top Trot Socialist Action advisers after he lost the Mayoralty last time? It was generous of Ken to railroad through policy so that they were on the same contracts as the permanent non-political staff, wasn’t it?

Is this an attempt to belittle any criticism he has of Ken? Why not discuss the issues rather than tittle tattle and rumour?

If Hodges’ childish reaction to being dropped from the New Statesman is anything to go by – taking it personally and determined to get his own back – it could very well be.

Hodges and Rob Marchant – peas in a quisling pod.

Shameful stuff Sunny. With people like you flowing into the Labour party now the Lib Dems are gone it’s no wonder the party is becoming the new “nasty party”. Shameful.

It is not bizarre. It is an example of a powerful man using his power. It is a perfect example for reserving power and for inspection of power.

Tories – who are cutting tax credits, chucking thousands on the dole, freezing tax reliefs for grannies, stealing the EMA, selling off the NHS and schools, forcing tenants out of their homes – coming on here and accusing Labour of being the nasty party is just funny.

Maybe Mr Hodges is Jewish?
Maybe he doesn’t care for tax avoiders?
Maybe he has a thing about hypocrites?
Maybe he was annoyed at Ken’s involvement in £200,000 pay-offs for mates after the mayoral election?

@17

I find it ironic that his username is “FDR”.

nope – hodges hates ken because hodges is a hardline blairite.

Dan Hodges has made a living out of assuming contrarian poses on all sorts of left-wing issues. Thus he can pose as a progressive while in fact being a reactionary (a very typical posture nowadays, I fear). I’ve taken to assuming that whatever he says, the opposite is probably true.

@17 What is it with the idea of a “granny tax”? Where I live some of the grannies are in their thrities and I’m not sure the planned tax change will effect them…

I suppose if you convince yourself that the current government’s actions are manifest wickedness, rather than the unconvinving and at times incompetent application of policies you don’t happen to agree with, it does have the happy side effect of making Ken Livingstone seem appealing…

Dan Hodges doesn’t need a reason to hate.

Dan Hodges is made of hate.

Dan Hodges smash!

This piece reads like it was written by the algorithm behind the Daily Mail Headline Generator. Next week: “Could a Boris Johnson victory give you cancer?”.
