Looking here at the statistics for affordable housing:

We find that in London alone, in 2010/11 (yes, I know this isn’t exactly the same period) there were:

Social rent: 9,130 units.
Intermediate affordable housing: 5,110
Low Cost Ownership: 3,760

All affordable : 14,250.

So, yes, these are completions, not starts, these are for a longer period, but it’s going to be incredibly difficult to get from those sorts of numbers to only 56 over a six month period.

But not so difficult that I cannot explain it. The people putting this video together have read the wrong statistics.

The other set of housing statistics, something which gives a guide to affordable housing but which isn’t quite the same as the above, is the set which divides housing starts and completions into private market, housing association and local council.

It used to be, yes, that almost all affordable housing was local council. This is now no longer the case. Almost all affordable housing is housing association and local council building (both starts and completions) is some trivial little rump of, they’re quite right in the number for London, something like one or two starts a week.

But, as I say, that’s local council starts, that’s not affordable housing. To get to affordable housing starts we have to add in that portion of housing association starts which are also affordable housing. And there are hundresds of those in London each quarter.

So our video peeps are either lying or too dumb to actually look up the correct statistics.

In the same spirit as Tim@7 Boris states that “crime” has gone down whereas the video only shows “knife crime” going up. This doesn’t mean that crime as a whole hasn’t decreased.

I’m not trying to justify or excuse Boris here; merely that if the video is wrong or out of context in one place they’ll jump on it like a starving dog and use it to discredit the other statistics by association.

The bankroll wants control, the last throw of the dice. Can’t take it with you so spend it, to bend it, rejection was pain.
