Watch: Chicken chases Boris Johnson

by Newswire

Over the last year, London Mayor Boris Johnson has consistently refused to debate with any of his opponents or defend his own policies.

Ken Livingstone even wrote to him and went to City Hall personally to deliver the letter challenging him to a television debate. Boris Johnson refused.

So the Ken team have come up with ‘Boris Johns-hen’, which is going to be following the Mayor of London over the next few months.

And they’re releasing clips from their escapades!

You do know that isn’t actually Boris I assume?

As Boris puts it, “this is a chicken that is itself so chicken that it did not have the gumption to find me in person. It is poultry poltroonery on an epic scale.”

I’d rather hoped this was footage of the actual Boris being chased by an actual chicken. It would have challenged my theory that the natural predators of politicians are rabbits.

Giant. Swimming. Rabbits.

You right-wingers have no sense of humour Tim.

That said – I think it’s the first “scoop” Andrew Gilligan has had in ages (has he mentioned his tenure at Press TV recently? No? Very odd!) – so I expect that’s why he’s smug.

You right-wingers have no sense of humour Tim.

Nonsense. I just think that Boris’s “poultry poltroonery” line is far funnier than getting a man pretending to be a chicken to chase a man pretending to be Boris.

Giant. Swimming. Rabbits.

Best. Political Moment. Ever.

@1 You mean to say Liberal Conspiracy have used misleading text to make a predictable sneery anti-Tory point? Well, I never!

@3 Oh, you think working on PressTV is something to be ashamed of too? I would rather have thought you’d be supporting it.

The longer I live, the more contemporary politics morphs into a barrage of West Wing repeats one after another…

You don’t engage with a chicken – didn’t they teach that boy anything?

I’m guessing this is going to have a real impact on the voters – because we are now letting 8 year olds vote in the London mayorial election, are we not?

If not, maybe some more focus on grown up politics rather than playing to the galleries – especially because the entire idea behind this will rather come crashing down when the actual election is in progress and debates take place. Short-term, stupid (and easily trumped by Mr Johnson’s normal ability to construct a phrase), and most likely a waste of resouces.

@ 3

“You right-wingers have no sense of humour Tim.”

It’s just not that funny to my mind. The fake Crime Stoppers poster from a coupla weeks back was much better.

@1

I can’t believe that Boris was so stupid to say that. He’s just challenged them bring the chicken to him, which I assume they will do. This would mean greater publicity for the campaign that otherwise stood a chance of not being noticed.

Given that the campaign is rather silly and childish, I doubt he’s worried too much about that.

Luckily, Boris has a template of how to handle such an event.

I’ve always thought you can judge a man by how best he deals with another man in a chicken costume. Yesterday in Tamworth David Cameron was pounced on by the Daily Mirror’s chicken and he dealt with it head on with humour and grace.

It’s always risky in politics when confronted with a shouty person, a drunk person, a streaker or a tabloid news gimp who’s been sent to the local fancy dress hire. It is usually impossible to ignore, you can’t get angry and you have to look like you get the joke.

Cameron, having put his arm around the grown man in a chicken outfit, shook its hand, joked it was his friend and claimed the Mirror as his favourite paper. He then removed the chicken’s feathered balaclava head to reveal a shocked looking adult who stood there mute.

Typical Ken really. He tries to use a political stunt that is even older than he is, but can’t quite follow through with it.

This is a fast hen.
