A proposed benefit cap will lift claimants out of dependency and into a fruitless search for jobs that don’t exist, says Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith
With unemployment at its highest level since 1994, Mr Duncan Smith has hit back at suggestions that one of the key ingredients of employment is jobs.
“As the system stands there is little incentive for people on benefits to break the cycle of dependency,” he explained.
“If we can reduce the amount of money we spend on the welfare system then this in turn will lessen the need for us to reduce unemployment.”
“When people say to us that unemployment has gone up, we can say ‘yes, but it’s costing us less'”
“The number one priority when employment is high shouldn’t be job creation, it should be about reducing the cost to the taxpayer.”
With the unemployed wallowing in opulence and the disabled and sick clearly faking it, polls suggest that the benefit cap is popular amongst the public, with some believing it should be reduced further.
“It’s all very well saying that putting a benefit cap in place will push thousands of families into poverty, but it all boils down to what people want to pay for, ” said one disgruntled taxpayer.
“There are badgers terrorising our countryside, we have a head of state that doesn’t even have a yacht, we have schools that have copies of the King James Bible that don’t even feature a foreward by Michael Gove!”
“This is the sort of hardship we need to be prioritising.”

Um…the benefits cap (at 26k, the median UK wage) *IS* very popular with the public. According to the polling in the Sunday times yesterday, 69% of LABOUR voters agree with it, and more from Lib Dem and Tory voters.
If you call capping what you can get, for nothing, from the state (which really means other taxpayers) at the median UK wage as “pushing people into poverty” then what do you call all the people working for LESS than the median wage, yet paying tax for those not working to recieve more???
Oh yes, please keep defending breaking up families where someone’s disabled, Tyler.
It might be popular because people don’t realise that the money goes to landlords and not those on benefits.
@ Leon Wolfson
My case in point. Paying people the median wage in the UK (26 thousand pounds) in benefits, which is a lot more than many working families earn, is somehow “breaking up disabled families”.
I’m with the 69% of Labour voters who rightfully think this is nonsense.
But this si what they actually think. look into IDS’s cold, dead eyes: he has no idea, and even think sthat young woman who baulked at an ‘internship’ at Poundland was a snob. This from a deluded failure who just doesn’t get that there are no jobs.
Too right renter girl
The dullard pretended he had a degree form an Italian University ( when he in fact left school at 15 without qualifications despite going to some kind of weird private school. He was a pen pusher in the army at a time when his men were dying in the streets of Belfast He employed his wife as his aid. The list of this idiot’s credentials goes on. He is rumoured to doubt the scientific explanation for the origin of life ( like the thicko can make an informed judgement) due to his fundamentalist catholic beliefs.
The Centre for Social Injustice is just that. It was not challenged enough on its inception. Its a disgusting organisation thought up by this idiot.
