Last year Conservative MP Aidan Burley was feted by Conservative Friends of Israel and invited on ‘fact-finding’ trips to Israel and the West bank (via @Saggydaddy).
Yesterday, it was revealed that Aidan Burley looked on while his friends chanted Nazi slogans at a French restaurant, with one dressed in an SS uniform.
Aidan Burley, MP for Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, was with 12 friends, some of whom chanted ‘Hitler, Hitler, Hitler’. One toasted the ‘Third Reich’ and one taunted a waiter for being French.
He later said on Twitter he deeply regretted the “inappropriate behaviour”.
It is less well known that Aidan Burley MP is also behind a recently launched campaign to undermine Britain’s trade unions, along with three other colleagues.
Aidan Burley MP has quite a colourful history from his university days too, but isn’t alone in this media hit-job operation.
The ‘Trade Union Reform Campaign’ is also staffed by blogger Harry Cole. A few years ago Harry Cole had to apologise for trying to use an anonymous online campaign to discredit the Edinburgh University Students Association. He currently fetches tea for Guido Fawkes, aka Paul Staines.
And then there’s Mark Clarke, a Tory candidate in Tooting in 2008 2010 (lost to Sadiq Khan), who was described by senior Tories close to David Cameron as a “liability”.
The fourth person behind the campaign to attack unions is Andre Walker was sacked when he was caught boasting about a smear campaign.

I’m sure you’ll agree these are just the sort of upstanding pillars of the community to raise questions about more accountability in public life.

I believe Mark Clarke has been removed from the Tory Parliamentary candidates’ list, though the reason isn’t clear.
Clarke is also associated with the Young Briton’s Foundation (prop. D Blaney).
I look forward to more balanced coverage of these facts in our wonderful media.

These colourful characters should try some voluntary work in the sectors they conspire against, perhaps rotating from hospital porter, teaching assistant, cleaner, etcetera between them after a month or so. This may give them a better idea of the lives of others.

It is ‘PC gone Maaaaad’ when a group of rich Tories cannot even pose for photographs dresed as goose stepping saluting Nazis without some Lefty drawing conclusions about it?
Of course dressing up as a Nazi and throwing Nazi salutes in no way means we should examine your policies aimed at the disabled in a bad way…
No mention of the fact that Ed Ball’s has also attended a party dressed up as a member of the SS.

Clarke was a candidate in Tooting in 2010, not 2008.
Amusingly, his main campaign message was aimed at Lib Dems: “Vote Clegg, get Brown.”

Staines is an extremely nasty piece of work so such an association is no great surprise. Perhaps the failure of his capital punishment petition to get very far will lead him to take up drinking again?
“He admitted driving while under the influence and without insurance after being stopped by the Plod in the small hours of 17 April, driving his wife’s Volkswagen fast and swerving across lanes in south London. He was breathalysed and found to be almost twice the legal limit. Asked by District Judge Timothy Stone whether he had an alcohol problem, Staines said: “Possibly.”
Sentencing is on 15 May. It is his fourth alcohol-related offence and second drink-driving reprimand – he was banned for 12 months in 2002 – requiring the judge to consider a jail sentence.
“I had been speaking at the Adam Smith Institute,” Guido explains. “They have made a lot of money so the booze is usually pretty good. I moved on with a few people to the Westminster Arms, where I bought drinks, and then to the Kennington Tandoori to show everyone the picture of Prezza on the wall. Then I was giving a few people a lift to Victoria station when the f***ers pulled me over.”
