Watch: activists unmask undercover cop at #oLSX
Activists from #occupyLSX unmasked and surrounded an undercover police officer who had infiltrated their protest on Wednesday, a video reveals today.
The hoodie-wearing police officer admits to a crowd that he was an undercover office.
The incident took place when activists from #occupyLSX were trying to protest at the offices of the mining company Xstrata
When unmasked, the man admits: “Yeah, I’m a Met Police officer, yeah.”
One protester says in response: “He has no uniform and no [badge] number… we have no way of identifying him, so how are we supposed to complain about him.”
Activists said they unmasked at least seven undercover officers that day.

OK ….. and what?
”How much are you getting paid?” they’re asking him. What a stupid question.
He’s getting paid what a policeman of his rank gets paid I suppose.
Police go about in plain clothers so that they can mingle without drawing attention to themselves. Carter and Regan from the Sweeney didn’t wear uniforms either.
How did they suss him out btw? Was it that he didn’t fit a stereotype?
One protester says in response: “He has no uniform and no [badge] number… we have no way of identifying him, so how are we supposed to complain about him.”
What is the complaint?
UKL @ 3
What is the complaint?
The complaint is we are living in a police State, where we are all potentially under surveillance, if ever we stray from the required subservience of the State and those elites that hold the leash.
Perhaps the one percent should tells us through, our elected Government, what actions are or are not permitted, thus we need not inconvenience them in any way. Perhaps we should go round the place forelock tugging our way through life, just in case a suit be displeased with our actions?
The complaint is we are living in a police State,
A police state where protesters laugh at an undercover cops clothes and then surround him?
Try that in a real police state cocker, I think things would go a little differently.
Dave @ 5
Yeah, the Tories have been in power for about a year and a half, the tide is slowly turning. This time next year the result may be a bit more sinister. They haven’t bought water cannon for a laugh, you know.
Still, just because no-one was pepper sprayed or shot this time must mean that the elites will never step up the tactics. Just because we do not see blood on the streets today automatically means no blood will ever spilled tomorrow.
Still, as long as you never dissent from what the power tells you to do, it is unlikely that your blood will be getting washed away.
The complaint is we are living in a police State, where we are all potentially under surveillance, if ever we stray from the required subservience of the State and those elites that hold the leash.
Then why is the undercover officer’s badge number needed?
(it’s a shame by the way that the male protester shouted over the female protester’s reasonable questions.)
UKL @ 7
The State should be accountable to the public.
Is is not hypocritical to essentially kettle the policeman? He has human rights too.
How was he discovered?
The State should be accountable to the public.
Of course it should!
But how does knowing the undercover officer’s number help? It doesn’t matter about him personally, what matters that he was there at all!
That’s my point really. The lack of number is a bit of a red herring and let’s face it he’d be useless at undercover if he was wearing a police number.
Where you need numbers is where there’s a group of uniformed officers wearing headgear or facing away from cameras and one or more are beating the crap out of protesters – you need to be able to identify offenders. But badge numbers seem irrelevant in the context of the OP.
Hopefully this doesn’t lead to more paranoia. The left needs to accept infiltrators wholeheartedly. Getting defensive about police only heightens the ability of the police to disrupt the sense of community within social justice movements.
1,2,5,7,9 well said the bloke in the video saying what’s if feel like to be the 1% is an idiot.
@9 Break a police kettle and you’re breaking the law (until the day a judge finally rules that the police have over-extended their powers with indiscriminate containment). This policeman could have used the law to leave the crowd any time as they would have been obstructing him.
Yeah, the Tories have been in power for about a year and a half, the tide is slowly turning
Yeah, the police were paragons of accountability under Blair.
In fact it seams like only yesterday Lib Con writers were telling us the police are on the side of other public sector workers.
As I said yesterday, governments come and go but the police just get stronger and stronger. You can pretend it would all get better under the party that gave us Jack Straw if you want but recent history proves otherwise
This is too shameful, It shows the world they will stoop so far to turn people against what is right. Occupy and stay free. This guy is an idiot that he would go against his and his fellow countrymen s interest. I guess he wants slavery.
“He has no uniform and no [badge] number… we have no way of identifying him, so how are we supposed to complain about him.”
Christ, undercover coppers don’t wear Met uniforms and badges with their numbers on – who knew?
They are the smug middle-class student left and they think they should be left to do whatever they like, break into whatever property they like if they believe it has something to do with “the 1%”, and that the police shouldn’t be allowed to touch them. Their essential complaint is that undercover police officers aren’t allowed to infiltrate their activities. Well they certainly are allowed to, sunshines, and no it isn’t a police state if they do. Now put the pashminas down and go home to Mummy and Daddy.
Shatterface @ 14
Yeah, the police were paragons of accountability under Blair.
No, they are not paragons of virtue then, but now they are under the power and direction of the Tories, they are going to get much, much worse, as witnessed by this little vignette. The filth has given up any pretence of upholding the law are little more than intelligence gatherers for the elite. The one percent need to no what the free thinkers and dissents think and what they believe and the junta duly go out and find out for them and report back. Meanwhile, child pornographers, people traffickers, gun runners and real criminals go completely uninhibited.
No wonder law and order has broken down.
17@jim, Under Labour the police were used to smash the fuel protesters the Pro fox hunting protesters and astop Anti chinese communist protesters During hte Chinese presdients visit,
It’s also been the Tories who have reduced pre charge detention form 42 days now down to 14, Also the Tories have scrapped section 44 stops and Stop and accouint forms,, Plus the 25% police budget cuts, teh emplyment freeze, the cutting of Police in London that Ken livingstone was going to have, took plice from safer neighbourhood boroughs,
Plus a 3 year pay freeze that may go onto a fourth year, Baring in Mind that the Police didn’get the pay rise they were promised in 2008, also the police have now had their pension contribution’s go up 4% to 15%
I’m not police either.
Twst @ 16
Now put the pashminas down and go home to Mummy and Daddy.
I love it when the Tory vermin turn on the middle classes who do not toe the Party line. These people the Tories despise have shat out more integrity than you cunts can muster up between the lot of you.
There you go, if you do not go along with whatever the Tory vermin decide what to believe in, why you should you believe it and how to express it, then they turn on you. Remember, the vermin hate free thinkers and expect us all to adhere to their idea of a perfect society.
That is why they have sent the secret police out to spy on you.
John Ried @ 18
Under Labour the police were used to smash the fuel protesters the Pro fox hunting protesters
Where they? When?
Nothing the police did during those protests compares to an undercover operation, though, did it?
Of course, you would have condoned an undercover operation costing a couple of million quid to gather intelligence against fox hunters, wouldn’t you? You would have condoned plod infiltrating a fox hunt to gather evidence against a hunt?
Given that fox hunting is still against the law, would it be a fair use of time and recourses to infiltrate all the major fox hunts ready for Boxing day? Gather the names of those advocating breaking the law?
Nope, thought not. Typical Tory scum
21 Jim, I’ve been a mamber of the Labour party for 25 years, the fuel protesters were pulled form their static vehicles outside petrol stations, nicked, emergency legislation was put to the queen to say aswell as blocking the Queens high road, that when someone is in a static car tehy can’t just say, i’ve run out of petrol, the car has broke down, and then the Police got in lorries and drove them out of the way of the petrol stations they were blocking.
regarding the pro fox hunt protests there wasw A big protest in Parliament square and the riot “police” were whacking in the heads as hard as tehy could teh pro fox hunt protesters who were pushing the barriers at their bodies, and throwing things at the police, I personally feel that some under cover work is unjustifed and that using un reasonable force to hit hard protesters over teh head can also be unjustified, If you feel that under cover cops are worse than hitting pro fox hunt protesters over the heads with truncheons, that’s an argument you can make, But don’t say that I didn’t have answers to my allegations with our comments “I thought not” without backing them as it makes you look silly ,before i’ve had a chance to esplain them.,SO yes i would feel that soemtimes getting Police to underc over infultrate fox hunting htats still gong on, i know for a fact there’s been prosecutions for fox hunting continueing.
When did i ever condone the spying that ,that undercover cop did, all I said was that Labour used the police for thier own ends as much as the tories are now.
typical loony left comments based on sneering without getting facts straight.
“Activists said they unmasked at least seven undercover officers that day.”
Seriously, if its that easy to find them why the big fuss?
My gut feel though is that, apart from having no proof that these were actually police oficers, I doubt police officers trained for such undercover work be so foolish to blow their cover so easily.
All.
What IS the principled objection to undercover police officers?
I can’t hear the sound where I’m looking at this; does the copper say “It’s a fair cop, you’ve got me bang to rights”?
Robin Levett @ 23
What IS the principled objection to undercover police officers?
Well, I cannot speak for ‘all’ of us, but let me speak for myself. I accept that undercover police operations are part of the policing strategy of this Country. I have no objection to police going undercover to tackle major crimes. However, where do we draw the line? Drugs, guns, child porn and sex trade smuggling? Yep, you got it. I support the police doing that type of thing. Terrorism? Yep, of course.
When we start to get into the realms of ‘political’ protests? Well really? Are the police snooping on EVERYONE lest a building be occupied, or a road closed by people simply being a fucking nuisance? Is it the role of the police to stop people ‘getting in the way’? Is it the type of thing that we need undercover cops for? Are we really that desperate to spend millions of quid a year to follow a few crustiest toddle along to power stations?
That is not ‘serious crime’ by any definition. Christ, the very fact that plod admitted he was from the Met when questioned surely must act as bell weather here? Is an under cover cop at mortal risk should his cover be blown? Yes, then we are looking at serious crime, did he get a ‘telling off’ from the people he was supposed to ‘betray’? Yes.
Is it possible that if the worse he get is an ear bashing that the people he is attempting to infiltrate are not serious criminals?
So who spent millions of quid on an undercover operation to track a few greenies wandering about? Not a police force where drug crime is a serious issue or child prostitution is rampant. Not a police force where organised criminals are smuggling guns into the Country or children are being groomed for pornography. Who thought ‘hmm, gangland boss or a few green peace guys’?
It is the deep political nature of who is being followed and why. We have politized policing in this Country and, I for one find it stinks to high heaven.
The reason that police don’t take child porn trafficking gun running serou,s is that the Dialy mail would sooner have this swept under the carpet and that the polce are worried what the Mail is affraid of ,so they go with the things that will appeal to getting hte mail to like them.
