Scores dead in terrorist attack in Oslo, Norway

Large explosions have rocked the capital of Norway around 3pm today.
They are assumed to be terrorist attacks, though no group has yet claimed responsibility.
ABC News reports it was a massive car-bomb.
The video below shows the scene from one of the explosions
This a picture the New York Times is using:

Evert Whitehouse in Oslo emails the BBC to say:
Well it’s quite shocking, it seems unreal that places here would be targeted by bombs. Apparently the prime minister is in safety and unharmed according to media reports here. The areas that have been hit, such as the government HQ looks like an urban warzone, glass lies scattered all over the streets and a building is on fire, from what I can see on the television. The areas are being cordoned off by the police in fear of more bombs going off.
Several people have been reported as injured. One person has been confirmed dead so far by the local station NRK.
YouTube video here shows lots of broken windows.

Took only minutes before the first wackjobs started claiming it was Murdock.
It’s already expected from people that follow Islam.
I’ve read the Koran and it’s in fact not a religion, but a totalitarian political system that oppresses all aspects of public and private life made by a megalomaniac, genocidal pedophile man.
Muslims must be ALL without exception expelled from Europe, and by force of is necessary, Koran legitimate rape, murder and every means necessary against non-muslims to conquer them, the “golden rule” in Islam applies only to other muslims, we have no rights to them and deserve to suffer until death or conversion to the cult of a psycopath self called “prophet”.
If you are muslim and become offended by what I say I’m challenging you to fight me as a man instead of killing innocent people like your madman “prophet”.
…and only a handful of hours before the first wackjobs started claiming it was Muslims.
From The Guardian at 21:48:
“The Norwegian justice minister has confirmed at a news conference that the suspect arrested today at the youth camp in Utøya was Norwegian.”
Given that the main target was a left-of-centre political party, perhaps we should be looking at the notoriously violent neo-Nazis who are gaining strength throughout Europe by having their poison pandered to by politicians and media moguls?
@4. The Judge: “Given that the main target was a left-of-centre political party…”
Or perhaps we should return to the liberal politics that The Judge has previously professed. Wait until there is evidence.
@3. Lincoln Baptista: “If you are muslim and become offended by what I say I’m challenging you to fight me as a man instead of killing innocent people like your madman “prophet”.”
People who disagree with you, Lincoln, may be Muslim or not. My guess is that they do not wish to use fists to sort out the argument.
To Judge:
It was a norwegian, a norwegian MUSLIM, probably an immigrant of descendent of one, nothing against immigrants or any race, my hate is directed to muslims only but not without reason or a good motive.
To Charlieman:
Barbarian people like muslims do not understand arguments, they act using threat, blackmails and acting in the shadows, violence is the only language they understand, so it’s the only language we should speak with them, someone in the decadent Western Civilization should say to muslims something like “or you change with this thing of Sharia and world caliphate or WE WILL BRING TRUE HELL TO YOU”. This is realpolitik, we can waste time thinking about world peace and other stupid idealism, but the truth is that war will always exists and where there is humans there will be bloodshed, and we must protect the existence of our civilization by ALL MEANS NECESSARY, and if it implicates the use of extreme violence we must not discard this option. I love Western Civilization and I will make anything to protect it from the adherents of a religion that deny human rights, freedom, woman dignity and have a project of world domination.
I respect all religions, and people who don’t have a religion to, I respect christianity, hinduism, judaism, jainism, animism, hinduism, etc. The only religion that I’m openly opposed is Islam, because it’s not only a religion, it’s a totalitarian political system that regulates every single aspect of private and public life, economy, state, everything, there’s no space for any sort of freedom in Islam except if you are part of the ruling aristocracy who hypocritically judge and condemn other people but live hedonists lifes with every perversion their money can get. I read the Quran and I can say to you with total certainty, Mohammed is nothing more than a mass murderer, pillager, genocidal, torturer, pedophile and megalomaniac lunatic.
Yes, I will use my fist against muslims and if necessary will useI a rifle, pistol or anything in my hand to protect humanity from islamic totalitarianism in the first signal of attack against the West, like they do in Norway, England, Spain, USA and France. They don’t want to argue, they want to conquer, to build an empire, if they attack the West and I got an opportunity of retaliation I will strike them, and I will strike without mercy.
Anders Behring Breivik(born 13 February 1979) is a Norwegian citizen. He is the suspected perpetrator of the 2011 Norway attacks, although it is yet unknown if he acted alone.[1][2][3]On 22 July 2011, he allegedly approached a Labour Party youth camp on Utøya, posing as a police officer, and then opening fire on the adolescents present, reportedly killing at least 80.[4]He has also been linked with the bomb blasts which had taken place approximately two hours earlier in Oslo. He was arrested on Utøya, and is currently in police custody.Behring studied at the Oslo Commerce School, and is described by newspaper Verdens Gangas Conservative and nationalist.[3]He is also described as a one-time freemason.[5]He expresses his sympathies for Winston Churchill and Norwegian anti-nazi World War II hero Max Manus on his alleged Facebook profile.[6]In May 2009 he founded the company Breivik Geofarm, a farm with 790 employees.[7]Norwegian media has speculated he used the farm as cover to legally obtain large amounts of artificial fertilizer and other chemicals in the manufacturing of explosives.[8]
….hasnt really said much about his religion, but I think The Judge might be spot on, sounds poltical if anything. Anyway, its not if anyone here has suggested otherwise, or wrote a long winded attack on islam, that would be daft
It really don’t look an Al Qaeda or another jihadist sort of attack, they attack in a more coordinated form, better for muslims, I love Norway (it’s like my… how can I say? “spiritual home”) and I’m suspicious to the extreme in relation to muslims since I read the Quran. If it was a muslim the responsible for this attack the first of them that appears in front of me would receive a punch, a spit in the face or a rock on the head (like they do with adulterous woman!), it was really better that this is an exception to the rule and that the terrorist strike this time is probably the work of a stupid neonazist. An attack to Norway is like an attack directly to me. I’ve never seen Norway live but I love that place. Mountains, snow, winter, cold, rain, aurora borealis, a good people, looks like a dream to me. If I got the money someday I will visit Norway and realize the dream of staying in the top of a frozen mountain feeling the cold and watching the snow with the aurora borealis in the sky.
Lincoln Baptista: ” This is realpolitik, we can waste time thinking about world peace and other stupid idealism, but the truth is that war will always exists and where there is humans there will be bloodshed, and we must protect the existence of our civilization by ALL MEANS NECESSARY, and if it implicates the use of extreme violence we must not discard this option.”
Was this a direct quote from Anders Behring Breivik, or just a guess at what was going through his head?
“Was this a direct quote from Anders Behring Breivik, or just a guess at what was going through his head?”
This is a school of philosophy called Realism with it’s roots in the writings a political scientist called Nicholó Machiavelli. If Breivik thinks like me or not, that’s irrelevant, he’s right if he thinks this way (political realism), but he is wrong in his actions because he attacked a constitutional monarchy where people have freedom and liberty. If he attacked a reunion of emirs or ayatollahs it would be right, because they are a threat to us all and a bunch of tyrants who wants to impose by force their religion and political-economic system in all planet.
Anyway, muslims, neonazis, fascists (in the root, they are all equal) and other people who wants to totally suppress individuality don’t deserve to exist and must be obliterated by any means necessary and wiped out because they are like a cancer, they will grow everyday faster if nothing is done to stop them until they become more powerful than us and get political power.
@Lincoln Baptista
From the Lib Con comments policy:
“Misogynist, racist, homophobic and xenophobic comments will be deleted.”
Given the disgustingly offensive nature of your comments then I hope that an editor takes a look at this comment thread soon.
And, incidentally, I think I should just point out that if people like you ever try forcibly expel muslims, or any other minority or ethnic group for that matter, from Europe then you will find that there are far more “indigenous” people like me who will stand up to you and stop you than will support you.
The real tragedy of this terror attack is that it looks as though it was perpetrated by someone of the same kind of mindset as the nazis – and that the response it illicits from lowlifes such as yourself is for you to call for exactly the same sort of racist, hate filled genocidal acts as the nazis were infamous for.
Lincoln Baptista seems to have an identical world view to the individual who committed these murders. Will it give him pause for thought? One doubts it.
@ Lincoln Baptista infra
I think you will find that the perpetrator was a far-right psychopath who probably feels the same way that you do about Islam … and the democratic Norwegian Labour Party.
Lincoln, sounds like you’ve been listening to too much Burzum mate.
Also, if you’re going to cite ‘realism’ as justification for your undergraduate view of international relations you should probably bear in mind the most prominent Norwegian realist is Ole Waever who would find your own views warped and not from the realist school at all.
@9
I suspect you’ll be about as welcome in Norway as the psychopath responsible for the murders. Your views, as others have pointed out, are likely lie on the same continuum as his. Islamists nutters aren’t the only ones capable of committing outrages against innocent civilians as events like the Oklahoma bombings, the shootings in Dunblane and Columbine and the bombing of Bologna stations (to pick just a few from a long list) show.
Mods: please do not delete the raving psychopathic Islamophobic comments from the fuckwit upthread. It’s important to see how this lunacy spreads (as others have noted, the attacker was probably cut from the same political cloth as our trolling friend).
11
How can you even consider critisizing the suppression of individualism with your expressed views?
@ Lincoln Baptista infra
Still there? If you are, you may be interested to hear that the Norwegian police have identified the suspect as “a fundamentalist Christian” … and “a conservative”.
The Norwegian police have identified the suspect as “a fundamentalist Christian” … and “a conservative”.
How do you “identify” someone as something? It’s a bit like a diagnosis? I’d like to know more about the process of “identifying”. Does it include any self-description?
@ 8:
“He expresses his sympathies for Winston Churchill and Norwegian anti-nazi World War II hero Max Manus on his alleged Facebook profile”.
He’s an extreme right-winger and he expresses sympathies for an anti-nazi hero? It would be more congruent if he expresses sympathy for Vidkun Quisling.
@ 21. Trofim
“How do you ‘identify’ someone as something? It’s a bit like a diagnosis? I’d like to know more about the process of ‘identifying’. Does it include any self-description?”
Yes – it involved self-identifying in this case, at th least from what we know so far.
I suppose you “identify” someone from a whole range of factors. More will undoubtedly emerge as we hear more. For example, you can identify someone’s political or philosophical identity by their self-description (eg “I am a person who promotes co-operatives” or “I say, ‘Hurrah for the Blackshirts!’” [per Daily Mail]), by what they wear (eg a safety-pin through the nose or a badge saying “Nuclear power – no thanks”), by what they write on Liberal Consp – no, this is ridiculous! You know what it means!
The perpetrator appears to be (= is identified as being) a right-wing, fundamentalist Christian. Good job they’re not all like that, eh?
If hate people of a religion that openly defend mass murdering, rape, torture, violence against womans and slavery is islamophobia, i am openly islamophobic and PROUD OF IT.
I have nothing against immigrants, nothing against any race, I’m not even european or american, I’m brazilian, a latin-american, it’s impossible to me be a nazi because if I go to USA or any place in Europe I will be in fact a target for them.
Europe is doing suicide, not because of accepting immigrants, but accepting islamic immigrants, they have a demographic rate much higher than the other europeans and the desire to not adapt to european society, but to REPLACE WESTERN SOCIETY WITH A ISLAMIC SOCIETY.
I’m not authoritarian, I love freedom, and it’s exactly this that make me have so hate against Islam and muslim, their totalitarian religion, their repressive societies. If it have a european here, I would ask, without malice. Don’t you already perceived that if you continue accepting muslims you wont last 3 generations? That you are in the way to civil war? Islam don’t accept secular states, it’s wrong to them, it’s against their faith accept any non-islamic state.
I’m not in a fight people, so please don’t be so rude, if I was rude with some of you, sorry.
I love freedom, I love difference, I love diversity, muslims hate all of this, and THIS MAKE ME HATE THEM! I’

Can you understand me now brothers? I care about Western Civilization and don’t want it to be replaced by caliphate or islamic republics, I want diversity and people with freedom and dignity, this is impossible in an islamic society, in the West, that they are trying to destroy, it is possible, it’s real.
@24
I am a european. I’m also an Englishman. My family has lived in England for about the last thousand years or so at least. And, since you asked such a question, I will answer.
I am perfectly comfortable living alongside muslims. I’m also perfectly comfortable living alongside sikhs, catholics, methodists, hindus, buddhists, confuscianists and protestants.
I am proud of tolerance. As long as it does not harm anyone else, people should be free to worship whatever they want.
Islam is perfectly acceptable of secular states. The Qu’ran actually instructs muslims to obey the local laws and customs when they are in a non-muslim country. The city that Muhammed founded when he was driven from Mecca was a secular one where muslims, jews and pagans all were respected equally and given the same protection under the law.
There are some muslims who are against freedom and tolerance, but they are a small minority. And their views are no closer to islam than the views of the KKK or the Westboro Baptist Church is close to christianity.
I have muslim friends and they’re no different than anyone else I know. We were all born around the same time, we’ve all grown up in the same country, we all follow the same cultural habits and share the same kind of interests. The only difference between us is that they might occasionally go to a mosque while I might occasionally go to a church.
People are people and the vast majority of people simply want to live their lives in peace and be left alone. Live and let live is all that most people want and muslims are no exception.
You speak of tolerance and freedom and yet you say you hate over a billion people simply because they are nominally muslims. Do you honestly believe that out of a billion people there is not even one person who means you and the rest of the world no harm?
To be honest, I don’t know why I’m arguing with you. You’re a fundamentalist and an extremist. You have exactly the same attitudes and values as Al Quaeda. The only difference between you is that their hate target is the western world (and muslim “collaborators”) while your hate target is the islamic world (and western “collaborators”).
You and Hitler and Stalin and Bin Laden are all peas in a pod. You all share the same disregard for anyone different from yourself and you all share the same hatred of the “other”. You represent everything that is intolerant and wrong with our society. The people who destroyed the world trade centre have the same mental attitude as this terrorist in Norway and the same mental attitude as people like you.
If it were up to me I’d lock the lot of you in a room and leave you to settle your hatred between you so those of us in 99% of the world’s population who aren’t like you could be left in peace.
The only thing that’s bothering me is that Lincoln Baptista is so extreme and self contradictory that I can’t help but wonder if it’s a parody.
A “massive car bomb.” Really? So where is the damge to the roadway? Look and you will not see any. Now search the internet for the images of the massive bomb blast that killed the Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri six years ago in Beirut. There you will see a massive hole in the roadway. But in Oslo there is not a scratch on the roadway – just office debris blown OUT of the buildings. Allegedly a massive nitrate-fertilizer bomb in Oslo but the roadway is unscratched. Think about that. And think about that ONE source of fire on an UPPER floor – a smoky fire to get your attention. But why weren’t there other offices on fire? And also think about why there was so much glass on the street when, if there was a bomb on the street. The glass should have been blown inside the buildings. Think Mossad, think CIA, think beyond the official narrative.
How do we know that the man in custody is really the one who shot the 86 teenagers? Did anyone actually see his face? How do we know they didn’t just frame this guy as the perpetrator? Don’t believe everything you read or see in the media. Did anyone see his face at the bombing? This sounds too fishy…
I would like to call a muslim to drink beer now, but they don’t drink bear, some don’t even drink soda, well, I will find a way to become a friend with one. I was friend of a muslim woman years ago, years before the 9/11, she was tolerant, she even allowed me to see her hair in public. I was an innocent kid, maybe there’s more wisdom in having the innocence of a kid than the paranoia of an adult.
