Meet the woman who organised anti-austerity protests in Portugal
Paula Gil @PaulMGil was one of the four people who organised the mass anti-austerity protests in Portugal.
From 30th June she and others are re-launching a Europe-wide campaign enquiry into why Portugal and others are facing such strong austerity measures and what caused the crash.
I caught up with her in Minneapolis last week at Netroots Nation and recorded this short video. She explains why things are going to get worse in Portugal.

Didn’t they just kick out a centre-left government and elect a centre-right one in Portugal?
@1:
Only because they thought they might as well cut out the middle man.
Paula Gil, you go girl! Ed M, watch and learn, that’s how you make a protest comment, tell it like it is.
Not entirely what they are protesting about to be honest.
Not one single Greek public sector worker has been made redundant during this awful ‘austerity’ push.
Its a preemptive protest in favour of free loans and tax avoidance! We should just cut out the middleman and ask CDU voters to directly send their taxes to street protestors.
@1,2: Well rather because Sócrates was a corrupt, self-serving bullshitter who stood for nothing and also because when things fall apart on a government’s watch a lot of people vote for the main opposition regardless of how the party’s views match up to their own
She is cute.
