38Degrees flood papers with NHS ads
Around 5 million people today saw newspaper adverts exposing Andrew Lansley’s sham “listening exercise” funded by the campaign group 38 Degrees.
A fundraising appeal was launched after a YouGov poll, paid for by 38 Degrees, found that 95% of the British public do not know how to get involved with Lansley’s NHS ‘listening exercise’.
It raised over £87,000 to launch ad campaigns opposing Andrew Lansley’s dangerous NHS plans.

The appeal has collected the largest number of donations for any other 38 Degrees campaign and breaks new ground in member-led advertising campaigns.
David Babbs, Executive Director, 38 Degrees said:
38 Degrees members are worried that Andrew Lansley’s listening exercise is all about spin. Events are invitation only and held in secret. Most of the public have no idea how to get involved. But the future of the NHS matters to all of us, we’ll all suffer if our health service is ruined. That’s why so many of us have clubbed together to pay for these adverts to sound the alarm.
They say they have collected nearly 400,000 signatures for their ‘Save the NHS‘ campaign.

It would have been nice if they’d spent a fraction of this effort or budget on the AV referendum.
38 Degrees is member driven. 38 Degrees members voted to prioritise the NHS campaign.

I was suspiscious of 38 degrees initially – and I was concerned that newspaper ads were a little pointless. However I have been a fully signed up member for a while – and I have seen the effect a 38 deg. petition has on lying politicians. No longer can they hide behind a screen of pollsters who pontificate on the feelings of Surbiton housewives.
One thing that 38 degrees has proven – beyond any doubt – is that the NHS is the MOST important thing to UK citizens – and I suspect by a long, long way.
What 38 degrees should be is a precursor to the abolition of parliament. I mean what do we need MP’s for when I can add my voice from my desk at work through 38 degrees.
At last the working class are no longer excluded from the political process because they’re too busy working to be out protesting.
Keep up the good work.
Andrew Lansley is like one of those wise monkeys, but lacks the wisdom to realise that he is sat on a mountain that is about to collapse! I doubt that he is going to have a happy landing. The people of this country can move mountains when they stand together.

Imagine if the Labour Party harnessed a model of targeted donations for purposes like this http://bit.ly/jkxidz Totally do-able.

The key for initiatives like this http://bit.ly/jkxidz is strength of email list & urgency of action. We need the equivalent on economy.
