Video emerges of PC hitting student protester

It’s an interesting question and begs others too. What is all this protesting for and could some of it be seen as anti-social and wasting police time?
Like rowdy football fans who by their behavior soak up large police resources, I wonder if some of these protests are equally selfish and self -regarding.

Here is some footage of two recent incidents. Some people complained about the treatment of the woman in the red coat, but if someone refuses to leave when asked, what do they expect to happen? Likewise when people try to prevent an arrest, what do they expect to happen? Do they think the officers will just let it go?

The officer who sprayed the crowd ordered them to stay back prior to spraying and his order was disobeyed. One of the protesters said, “all we’ve been doing is protesting peacefully”, but that isn’t all that some protesters were doing – some were actively trying to prevent an arrest! (whether or not it is a wrongful arrest is a different matter)

I am not excusing kettling for hours on end, the use of CS spray in this case or the arrest for criminal damage – they seem excessive as I have said before. But I do think that people ought to realise there are foreseeable consequences to such things as I’ve outlined here and not have this kind of wilful blindness about it.

I think senior officers should pay more attention than they appear to be paying to the HMIC’s report on the G20 and Policing Protests.

I am pleased to see Ellie Mae and others state they don’t think all police are the same, that some seemed ashamed of the officer who used the CS spray.

As it was mixed in with “your job’s next”, I think it was more a way of saying “go on, do that and see what happens”. Could be wrong though. Also, going from the video, it’s “his” not “their” – I can only hear one person saying it.
