Revealed: longer video of policeman punching students

Last week we posted a very short video of a policeman repeatedly punching a student protester.

A longer and clearer version of the video has now emerged.

It shows that many students were trying to escape the kettle that the police had put them in. That prompts the police to forcefully move in, push back protesters, and lash out at them.

Watch the video below – it does not show students creating trouble.

There is now a Facebook campaign to take officer U1202 to court over the incident.

Oh for god’s sake.

The students are disobeying orders (presumably lawful orders) to get back and headphones chap pushes the police officer you accused of going on a punching rampage.

Not that any of this necessarily merits a punch in the face, as I said on the earlier thread. But to say “the video does not show students creating trouble” is just wilful blindness.

Why not just say something to the effect of “it seems to me the officer used disproportionate force”? You don’t have to make any claim about the students at all and you will look far more credible.

It clearly shows some abusing the cops in a very aggressive manner, sutdents got what they deserve

It clearly shows some abusing the cops in a very aggressive manner,

Swearing and shouting merits a punch in the face from a policeman? Um, no.

It clearly shows cnsiderableagression by the students and police in a heightened state of anxiety due to the numbers of protectors and their aggressive behaviour. That does not excuse the punch, which is the only objectionable action I can see, but it can be seen it came as a result of aggression and a protestor not letting go of the police officer’s clothing.

Apart from that the police acted well in the face of an antagonistic crowd.

The students are “causing trouble” in the sense that they are trying to leave an authoritarian blockade which is violating their right to freedom of protest and movement.

Trying to walk down the street isn’t aggressive. The punch comes as the police go running in and shoving to stop people leaving.

Yes, because the correct response to a verbal insult is a punch in the face. You must be a riot at parties.

The students deserve what they got – if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen

If you think it was reasonable, look closer at just how many officers are restrained by others during the incident. I don’t think police need to be pacifistic in the face of violence, but when the police themselves are having to pull their colleagues back from attacking the crowd you know there’s a problem. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that some officers went too far.

It’s good to set gen Y getting off face book and actually doing soemething but that was handbags at 12 paces, I wouldn’t even classify any of it as violence, let alone brutality. That sort of thing happens every week at football matches, it’s called crowd control.
Back in the 80s when there were proper political protests, you expected to get beaten up by the counter protest and/or the police, and thought nothing of it. Young people nowadays……………

Yes, at 1:32 you can clearly see a female police officer holding back her colleague – the one who looks like someone from the Harry Enfield scouser sketches and has a similar attitude.

I was a bit unsure about this incident before. The original video was very brief and didn’t show what had been happening just prior to the punch-throwing, which left me wondering if there was some selective editing going on. Now that we have a longer vid, it’s clear that there was no justification for that officer laying into people the way he did.

From some of the comments above, one gets the feeling that if a video was posted of an officer stomping on a kitten, they’d be loudly insisting the kitten had looked at him funny.

You’re telling me that ALL the police were acting within reason and were trying to control the crowd? So why does one of them use the “come an ‘ave a go” hand gesture at 1:10?

@8 – Do you understand what Kettling is you fucking moron
