An ode to David Cameron
contribution by Max Burman
Down the river he sold the country’s heart,
One nation once, now two worlds apart.
A man in his Prime but a problem with debt,
Flanked by boy George and the Orange Clegg,
‘Working together in the national interest’.
“The damage was done over 13 years,
Don’t worry doubters I’ll compound your fears”
He said,
Just as long as the Liberals jump into my bed.
A budget deficit and no wealth creation,
So to benefit cuts he turned for salvation
As into two worlds he split the one nation.
Size matters, of course, so a Big Society
Was just the cure for broken Blighty,
Led by a wolf in a sheep’s clothing;
The poor were split, some undeserving
But others worked hard to answer the call
Of a country that needed them, one and all.
And back into work he’dhelp them go,
With money to boot unless three times they’d said no
Although figures suggested employment was low.
With tuition fees raised the students marched,
“Tory scum” they shouted as into Millbank some charged.
Burnt placards bore the Deputy’s face,
Pledges signed but not even a trace
Of yellow ink
As the country’s fortunes were consigned to the sink.
The public sector was bad, the private good
But at least there were hugs for those in hoods.
A spending review to solve all problems unfurled,
But out of one nation he forged two worlds.
Equality once, now fairness preferred
A coalition defined by three simple words:
‘Freedom, fairness and responsibility’
Didn’t prepare for the stark reality;
Red Ed agreed with points, he said,
As into the scramble the opposition were led
In the middle ground elections were won,
But as they lurched to the right the Tory web was spun
With a hacker, they alleged directing communications
Into two worlds they split the one nation.
From outside they couldn’t listen in
But the country’s cell he’d quickly begin
To construct with policies of division and strife
At least our dear Prince had found a wife.
Reviews and budgets with a hidden purpose,
The intention unclear but the results would hurt us.
Down the river he sold the country’s heart,
One nation once, now two worlds apart.
The man in the Iron Lady’s mask.

Ooh, poetry time!
There once was a fellow named Dave
Who enjoined all the proles to be brave
As with Deputy Clegg
(A distintly bad egg)
He danced jigs on the Welfare State’s grave.
Remember when Nick Clegg was thought the Mutt’s Nuts?
‘No tuition fee rises, no ifs, and no buts’.
Alas, he’s now signed up to so many cuts
I expect my grandchildren to live in mud huts.
‘Dave, will you look at the pickle we’re in?
The markets have fucked up. We need some new spin.’
‘Don’t worry, I’ve got an idea.’
‘Really? Great!’
‘Sure – turn it all round and blame the State.’
I could do this all day.

So Ed Miliband related Cameron to Thatcher. Some (me) have even written poems on such matters http://t.co/6pFFjr5g
