Mail smears firefighters – readers don’t buy it

by Sunny Hundal

The Mail on Sunday has this hatchet job on London’s firefighters.

Who will actually fall for this pathetic attack?

In any other circumstance, having a second job to make ends meet would be applauded by the Rabid-Right.

Not when there’s a trade union involved though, it seems.

But even Daily Mail readers weren’t buying the hatchet-job. Here are the top rated comments.

Another one to add to the smear list! http://theredrock.wordpress.com/2010/10/29/the-daily-mail-gets-its-readers-ready-for-the-firefighters-strike/

It really is ridiculously transparent.

It is interesting though, isn’t it, about how a change to the shift systems, which might affect that availability for a second job, are so fiercely resisted?

I certainly can’t argue against peeps having a second job: I’ve a couple myself.

But it is still interesting how that insistence that shift patterns must not change is being resisted, isn’t it?

Nice spot Jon – volunteer heroes have to be infalible. If not better that they dont bother and just stay at home.

apparently.

Tim

You do have to wonder why the Mayor is so keen to change the shift patern don’t you. I mean it is interesting that of all the options available to him to negotiate and adjust the service for better or worse, he won’t back down over that one.

Don’t you think?

“Who will actually fall for this pathetic attack?”

Daily Mail readers will. The same people who are spouting that Housing Benefit changes will affect feckless scroungers, ignoring the fact that only 1 in 8 HB claimants are unemployed.

I wonder how many fire fighters read the Daily Mail; or do they just visit the online version to comment on the outrage topic of the day? Somebody must be buying the bloody thing.

“But it is still interesting how that insistence that shift patterns must not change is being resisted, isn’t it?”

And that they’ve all been threatened with the sack under section 188. You know, threatening your entire workforce will occasionally spark a reaction.

Words fail. Pure poison that “paper” is.
I may one day seriously buy a copy and wipe my arse with it.
Do you think it’ll flush or will it block my crapper?

Over the last few days the Fail have churned out at least 3rd negative Fireman stories – the one in the OP plus;
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1324586/Drowning-mans-pleas-firemen-refused-to-aid.html

And …….
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1325452/Strike-firemen-cash-second-jobs.html

I expect by bommy night Fail churnos will be frothing at the mouth in search of a story about somebody singeing their eye brows while trying to set off a banger?

How about we promise that if we burn our homes down – we go straight to the Standard and complain at the beligerant authorities trying to force ridiculous changes and sackings on the fire service.

10. the a&e charge nurse

[9] you mean accepting that there are TWO SIDES to the dispute – but surely that might lead to fewer gratuitous stories about Fireman moonlighting as models, or leaving people to drown in freezing water?

Thank god the fail have taken it upon themselves to keep the public fully informed about these flaky firemen?
