Above: the worst of the left in action. Like it or not, the Coalition represents a substantial majority of the electorate and to call for a “revolution” (even if it might only be in jest) just shows how little they care for the people’s democratic right to decide.

George – firstly, people have the right to democratic protest regardless of the majority of the people who elected a government. It is downright absurd and naive to say people are not allowed to protest and voting once every five years is the only way to exercise your democratic right.

Secondly – Your Coalition doesn’t have the democratic mandate for these deep, quick cuts:

Recognise.

Sunny,

An opinion poll is not an indication of intention of the people, just the views of a representative sample. Unless you want to adopt the Swiss/US route of allowing more frequent referenda on issues (nice in principle but tend to produce fairly conservative, low tax outcomes).

You are however correct that people are at liberty to call for a revolution as much as they like. Although I have to wonder if one was attempted and failed, would they then be liable for conspiracy to commit a crime? It may be you are only safe supporting revolutions that are not going to happen – which presumably includes the protesters that so upset George ;)

They don’t make protests like they used to.

George -

‘Like it or not, the Coalition represents a substantial majority of the electorate’

- not on the issue of spending cuts it doesn’t. Even if you ignore the opinion polls Sunny points to, the fact remains that in May, a majority of the electorate voted for parties advocating fewer cuts and a slower pace of deficit reduction (Labour and the Lib Dems).

I’d rather go into coalition with Cameron, than into Iraq with Bliar.

Yes, that’s just what we need.

Government – and democratic mandate – by opinion poll!

its good you’ve got footage of the absolute state they left the place in, one way of avoiding cuts might be to clean up after yourselves rather than making the council spend money on doing it.
