I think that this is an internet snowball that has got out of control. It seems like it is just guidelines in an area that is a rather violent one.

The BNP and others have twisted it to promote more racial hatred as usual which to me as a young black male is sad because it is the time when more races and cultures get together and actually united as one, which nobody hear has really mentioned.

During the last Euro’s England did erupt into violence but this does not mean that everyone is a “thug” and its time that we stop sterotyping and discriminating against other and actually grow up a little. I wear my England shirt with my friends of all races, never once have any of us got into a fight or brawl but we have definitely had lots to drink! There always violence in pubs etc and yes maybe football mixed with alcohol does bring out the worst in people but don’t ruin it for everyone by banning the England shirts for everyone and promoting exactly what we do need which is more discrimination and racism!

They have only said a ban on football shirts and this does not imply that they will be banning shirts dipicting the st. georges cross. If they do decide to try and enforce this then i don’t think people will be fighting over football matches! i think they’ll be fighting over not being allowed to wear one of the most patriotic symbols that ENGLISH people have.

The police guidelines are to with the fact that a pub may have two sets of supporters in the same premises. It gives them a get out to stop trouble.
Also I suggest those with a left wing bent and love the beautiful game you buy a philosophy football top.
Wonderful socialist message and a top quality top. I am on commision.
My England top has we only win the world cup under a Labour government and Bill Shankly ones are my favourites, although I do have Camus GK top. Sad but true.

Pub land lords have to follow the licencing laws and the police give them recommendations of all sorts including ones for the World Cup & Euro Cups. Unfortunately there are the odd few who ultimately spoil these big events for everyone else by kicking off in pubs & clubs usually after copius amounts of alcohol. It is sad as their are so many England fans who make us proud. I worked in pubs for years and remember one year where drunk England fans went and set fire to the local kebab shop after Turkey did well (dumb asses didn’t click that the owners & workers weren’t Turkish), kicked the shit out of a black guy (with the strongest London accent I’ve ever heard), and 2 pubs got smashed up before the police hauled them all out and closed the premises. Unfortunately, like religion, football is used as an excuse to start violent behaviour, people can’t handle us losing & going out early, people drink too much, pubs staff & police are subject to abuse, and alot of people become extremely racist The police sugget things to pubs to try to safe guard them and put restrictions on certain pubs & areas to avoid problems. Croydon is a major one (2004, gun violence), Redhill in Surrey they advised the pubs to close early last time when England went out (one pub didn’t and had to any way in the end as there was so much violence)…. Some pubs don’t want this trouble and even ban the games all together in their premises & that is their right, if we don’t like it maybe go somewhere else and behave. I think instead of getting angry at the police for these restrictions then maybe should turn our annoyance to the English idiots who spoil it for us and bring the need for the police & pubs to react this way.

I wear an England top to support my football and cricket teams and I am a mother of two young children, training to be a teacher, and I am in no way shape or form “a thug”.
I do not agree with the shaven head remark either, my partner shaves his head and I know a lot of other men that shave their heads, some because they are balding, but they are not thugs or hooligans either!!!!

Some bars have had this rule for decades. I was made to turn my Englad 1966 World Cup shirt inside out before being let into a bar in 1996. I got annoyed about it and turned it back the right way as soon as I got in, but it was never about offending anyone and all about a ‘no football colours because of trouble’ rule. Might be stupid, but it’s not the same.

You’ll get people ranting about the ban on England shirts in pubs bedecked with St George Crosses while they’re wearing an England shirt, ranting at people wearing England shirts and buying beer from bar staff wearing England shirts. You get this same crap with England flags every time there’s a big tournament. It gets really boring.

I imagine the suggested ban was against CLUB football shirts being worn to watch England games, as this is clearly likely to cause friction amongst fans who would otherwise all be on the same side.

I watched the 2006 world cup in Germany, and the stupidist thing the organisers did was play “You’ll never walk alone” to the peed up England contingent. half sung along, half booed, and suddenly the atmosphere was not so convivial.
