Glenn Beck comes to UK; advertisers run away!
Very quietly, it seems, Glenn Beck has come to the UK. Or at least his show has started broadcasting here on Fox News on Sky.
And for the last three days it has run without any advertising, thanks to a cross-Atlantic effort to keep up a boycott of the presenter.
The US based campaign ‘Stop Beck’ reports:
Glenn Beck’s show in the United Kingdom has not run any commercials during the past three days (Tues-Thurs). Glenn Beck’s show in the UK used to run commercials. The shows that come on before and after Glenn Beck still run commercials. But, for the past three days, Mr. Beck hasn’t had any sponsors in the U.K.
During the commercial break, instead of running ads, they cut away to Sky News updates or the weather. Perhaps they’re having trouble finding sponsors willing to subsidize Glenn Beck’s misinformation, vitriol, sexism and race-baiting?
That is very likely to be the case.
The US campaign group has just confirmed three more advertisers that have dropped Glenn Beck, taking the total to 102 advertisers.
The British arm of the campaign launched recently and has been tracking advertisers on the show.
It confirmed that advertisers on the show are slowly petering out. Past sponsors include Calvin Klein, Simply Health, Land Rover, McDonald’s and Nintendo.
You can follow the UK arm of Stop Glenn Beck via their website or on Twitter.
Glenn Beck first came to infamy by asking the first US Muslim congressman to prove he was not a terrorist.
He has since acquired a long history of spouting mad paranoia and misogyny.

“Very quietly, it seems, Glenn Beck has come to the UK. Or at least his show has started broadcasting here on Fox News on Sky.”
Mate, it’s been broadcasting for months and months. I watch it avidly. Not that quick on the uptake are you?
Orator’s right – the international version of Fox News on Sky channel 509 is exactly the same as the US version and has had Beck’s show on it since Beck moved from CNN to Fox.
They only recently started selling adverts on the channel at all. It used to show just a rolling world weather forecast during commercial breaks.
I’m with Tom, although I’m a little confused as to why a self-confessed voice of reason speaking truth to power would have anything to do with Glen Beck?
Perhaps the truth and reason is not as freely flowing as the orator thought…
The Fox News broadcast on Sky over channel 509 is a live stream of what is shown on Fox in the US. Therefore the advertisement breaks would be full of irrelevant US advertisments. To this end, Sky show a feed of headlines and weather during the breaks.
Glenn’s show has been broadcast in the UK ever since it started over a year ago. Can I assume, then Mr Hundal, that you have not seen his show until very recently, and that any opinions you may have of it are, at best, second-hand from others around you?
I’m sure Sunny will answer but as someone who has seen the Beck show I can vouch for its vileness and basis in an utter lack of facts.
No, DH-G, you can’t. You’re biased and we don’t trust you on this. You just wish Olbermann were on UK televison.
Can’t you see the futility of your position?
First of all what you said could easily be related to your own clear prejudice, secondly you use a royal ‘we’ by which I think you mean other right-wing loons and then you make a sweeping generalisation about Olbermann.
You wouldn’t know truth if it bit you on the ass.
Danny, Danny, Danny, can’t you see the futility of your position?
First of all what you said could easily be related to your own clear prejudice, secondly you seem to advocate some sort of news censorship and then you make a sweeping generalisation about people who watch Beck which is borne out by the viewing demographics.
You wouldn’t know truth if it bit you on the arse.
Thanks for paying me a compliment by just repeating my argument back at me, it’s not my fault if your pompous blog header makes me giggle. This is pretty pointless and circular.
I haven’t advocated news censorship at all you tit, that’s you making things up.
As for Beck, his show is dire, beyond a joke in fact, the content hoists its makers and viewers by its own petard.
For a voice of truth to raisins you sure like to copy what I say…
Fox News has been shown in the UK for while on Sky Television.
When Fox News is shown outside the US all of the ads are removed since they are for US products only. All of the shows on Fox shown outside of the US do not have ads not just Glen Becks show.
Unlike CNN which has two news forms CNN International and CNN (which is shown inside the US). They differ slightly. The International version has International ads or ads for other shows on CNN.
Fox News broadcasts exactly the same show as shown in the US so it just removes the ads from it International broadcasts.
In some countries they even have a bit called Fox News extra which is played during the ad break (like in Australia and New Zealand).
In the UK they show the Headlines of Sky News. Otherwise it would just show the Fox News Logo.
Wow… does ‘The Orator’ LIKE glenn beck!!??
I feel honoured! It’s a bit like seeing a neanderthal man on display in a zoo – am I allowed to ask it questions and stuff?
No, DH-G, you can’t. You’re biased and we don’t trust you on this. You just wish Olbermann were on UK televison.
And I wouldn’t trust “The Orator” as far as I could throw him.
And that is on any subject.
It’s a bit like seeing a neanderthal man on display in a zoo – am I allowed to ask it questions and stuff?
Yes, but don’t get it wet or feed it after midnight…
The Orator needs to shut his pie-hole. That’s some censorship we can all agree on, I think.
Same goes for Beck.
It’s not like I’m conservative or like Glenn Beck or anything Fox News does, but there are ZERO advertisers for any Fox News program in the UK. It is just a feed of the US broadcast, with sky news piped in during the commercial breaks.
Can any UK folk confirm this? I don’t blame you for not even knowing Fox News was available/exists.
@ Alex Sterling
Yeah you’re right, the Fox News shown on Sky is exactly the same as the one shown in the US except for the advertisements.
My daughter and her mates are huge fans of Beck. There are even T-shirts involved. I don’t know what his UK audience ratings are, but I’m fairly sure a large part of them are giggling students.
How the fuck is it censorship?
Consumers, in a free market (you know, that thing right-wing trolls say they support) decide they don’t like Glenn Beck and boycott any company that endorses him. Again, consumer choice, which right-wing fuckwits are supposedly in favour of.
These companies, wanting to make as much money as they can (which in every other context fash cunts praise, regardless of how much it may harm people) decide not to sponsor shows he’s on.
He has every right to speak his mind, he has no right to automatically be sponsored by advertisers.
Is that so hard for the likes of “The Orator” to understand?
Did right-wing trolls complain when American conservatives boycotted the Dixie Chicks for not being subservient to Bush? No, they launched a campaign of nowtrage.
But silly me forgetting that IOKIYAR.
The Fox groupies are right, he has been on for ages.,
Censor him, are you mad.
I kid you not, I am sure the guy is a secret leftie.
I watch him in a hypnotic trance.
A little like Curling
You know its shit but it is so funny.
Keep him on because if he represents the right. then you lot are deep in the proverbial.
It reinforces my prejudices.
In the words of Rafa Benitez, here are some facts:
1 – Fox News has been available on Sky for many years now
2 – Glenn Beck’s show has been broadcast since it’s been on
3 – The channel has never shown the US adverts (obviously) and seems to have either the weather or British news from Sky during the ad breaks
Has the original author of this post not even done the most basic research? This site has some decent articles, but some utterly poor ones too. Honestly, this post scrapes the barrel. I am right of centre, I hate Glenn Beck, but I like to look at this site as anyone with half a brain likes to read things that challenge their own views. This post, however, makes me despair.
Glen Beck is extremely well liked in America, you will soon learn why. He is the most honest of broadcasters, despite the attacks that you hear. He is entertaining, funny, and let’s people’s speak in their own words. I predict that Brits will love him too once you give him a chance.
