Juvenile left wing comedy. Nothing better.
Hmm,
Even though Palin is a fucking retard, I can’t help but feel that this is indicative of the tragic collapse of American political discourse.
There’s no debate of ideas at all, no nuance. Just mud-slinging and insults. A man like Obama tries to use reasoned arguments to put forward a change in healthcare policy that affects millions and the opposition is driven in large measure by crazies decrying his Nazi Stalinist socialism.
In the 1950 and 1960s, America was possessed of some of the greatest public intellectuals that ever lived (think J.K. Galbraith, etc).
If they, and for that matter the Founding Fathers, could see what’s become of the so-called Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, I think they’d be distraught.
It really is an immense tragedy – and how on earth can it possibly get any better?
Paul
and how on earth can it possibly get any better?
Well decrying the lack of civility in political discourse with one breath whilst calling people you disagree with “crazies” probably isn’t going to help matters.
Juvenile left wing SATIRE, I think you’ll find.
How come ‘fucking’ gets an apostrophe but the more discriminatory ‘retard’ doesn’t?
‘Fucking’ is an equal-oportunities expletive.
@2
You do know Colbert is on Comedy Central don’t you? I don’t think it’s the job of satirists to raise the level of political discourse.
Perhaps you made the same mistake as the poor schmuck in the White House who booked Colbert for the Correspondents Dinner without realising who he was –
Hey LibCon types, if you want to campaign for something, how about getting on to CH4 to DEMAND The Colbert Show on More4?
‘Hey LibCon types, if you want to campaign for something, how about getting on to CH4 to DEMAND The Colbert Show on More4?’
Count me in: I think he’s hilarious and wasted on satallite.
If you want to admire a female politician, look at a serious mover with a full mastery of her brief and the ability to deliver effective action:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1002/07/sotu.01.html
Do the Palinites think their heroine could manage such atention to detail, such fluency, such actual work in the world rather than making money out of fuckwits?
No, she isn’t clever enough. Thatcher, as much as you may not like her policies, at least could get her head around things. Palin is just a celeb & a culture war icon, in short everything Obama has ben accused of being.
According to the news report in The Times, Sarah Palin definitely has her sights on the White House:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article7018587.ece
I really appreciated the reports about her speech crib notes here:
“Palm-reading Sarah Palin caught red-handed”
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article7020549.ece
Savour again the media interviews of admiring fans at her book-signing ceremony in Columbus, Ohio last November:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKKKgua7wQk&feature=fvst
Do those interviews by US media give you the comfort of a warm glow of sentiment about standing shoulder to shoulder with our closest ally?
How come ‘fucking’ gets an apostrophe but the more discriminatory ‘retard’ doesn’t?
I don’t want the site blocked by any programs that filter out expletives in headlines. I wouldn’t use a * otherwise.
“Palm-reading Sarah Palin caught red-handed”
Barack Obama can’t make a public statement without having it handed to him verbatim by a teleprompter, but seven words used as a reminder somehow makes Palin dumb? As I said at Alex Massie. The one thing I love about Sarah Palin is how dumb she makes her left-wing critics look.
The other day, Obama pronounced “corpsman” as “corpse-man” twice despite it being handed to him on a teleprompter. Even I know how to pronounce that and I suspect Sarah Palin does too. So how dumb does that make “57 states” Obama.. Perhaps he should have written the correct pronunciation on his palm.
The Katie Couric interview with Bible Spice when she could not name one book or newspaper she had read was classic television, especially when she said she had read them all. Them all being every book ever published.
@Conservative Cabbie
Barack Obama can’t make a public statement without having it handed to him verbatim by a teleprompter
You must have missed the hour and a half session he had with the Republican congressional reps.
No prepared speech
No teleprompter
No notes on hands
Enjoy

9. Bob B – “I really appreciated the reports about her speech crib notes here:”
Obama can’t talk to six year old school children without a teleprompter. So Palin had half a dozen high lights on her palm? So what?
It is the sheer nastiness of the class snobbery and misogyny among her critics that drives much of her support. The more that some people sneer at her for not being bare foot and pregnant in the kitchen like a good girl, the better she looks.
Bill
Actually I’ve already seen it. It was fascinating television. And yes, Obama equipped himself very well, apart from all the lying, but that’s par for the course for Obama.
But he does have a teleprompter problem. look what happens when the teleprompter goes rogue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of61E1FesPU
As you say. Enjoy.
Question. Do you know how to pronounce corpsman? And if Palin pronounced it as corpse-man, what would your reaction be? Be honest now.
@CC
So a couple of Obama flubs compare to the gift that is Sarah Palin? The only thing she’s good for is getting the gorgeous Tina Fey on TV more often.
And what’s with all the invoking of Reagan? According to the new GOP purity test, he wasn’t a conservative.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-02-01/the-republicans-reagan-amnesia/
ps – Actually I don’t know how to pronounce ‘corpsman’. Is that a Tancredo Test to exclude me from the political sphere?
Did you catch The Daily Show earlier? That Tea Partier with his sign against the ‘Pubic Option’ really resonated with me. I hate it when women don’t wax down there.
Vote Palin 2012
“Obama can’t talk to six year old school children without a teleprompter.”
Until elected to the US Senate, Obama was a professor of constitutional Law at Chicago University and see this news report of Feb 1990:
“BOSTON, Feb. 5— The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School.
“The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago’s South Side before enrolling in law school. His late father, Barack Obama, was a finance minister in Kenya and his mother, Ann Dunham, is an American anthropologist now doing fieldwork in Indonesia. Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii.”

I clicked the link posted @13 above and watched an impressive performance.
For comparison, try these interviews with John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate at the 2008 election:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtZlR3zp4c
“The only thing she’s good for is getting the gorgeous Tina Fey on TV more often.”
IMO that is a gross understatement on Sarah Palin’s celebrated attributes as this video clip displays:
http://en.zappinternet.com/video/FoTcFukYog/Candidata-Sarah-Palin-en-Banador
An impressive performance.
17. Bob B – “Until elected to the US Senate, Obama was a professor of constitutional Law at Chicago University and see this news report of Feb 1990″
Which makes his inability to cope with Sixth Graders without a teleprompter all the more shameful really, doesn’t it?
@18 BB
Oh yeah.
Let’s see Obama do that
Bill
According to the new GOP purity test, he wasn’t a conservative.
That’s the purity test that didn’t pass is it? Kind of makes the point moot.
And what’s with all the invoking of Reagan?
I suppose it’s like the invoking of JFK who believed that tax cuts generate economic growth. Or celebrating the life of Teddy Kennedy who thought it ok to leave a young girl to die, or to sexually molest a waitress. It’s probably something like that.
So a couple of Obama flubs compare to the gift that is Sarah Palin?
So Obama makes flubs whilst Palin is dumb. It really is true what they say about the left and how they alter the meaning of language to suit their needs. Sort of explains how they gave Harry Reid a pass for using the word negro. A Republican does it and they scream “racist”. Harry Reid does it and he’s just a confused old man.
Actually I don’t know how to pronounce ‘corpsman’.
That’s ok. you’re not commander-in-chief. But for me, I’d want my CinC to have a basic understanding of military terminology.
So much for subtelty
I think we may be on the same side of things here, so it pains me to do this. But that stuff about the sixth graders isn’t true. The teleprompter was just for when he addressed the press later.
It’s a bit of a bug bear for me, but if we’re going to call out Obama, lets be accurate in doing so. That way, when the left make crap up which they do most of the time, we’re in a stronger position to challenge them on it.
CC
Just because Chairman Steele managed to block the test being official GOP policy doesn’t mean the Tea Party folk aren’t going to hold candidates to it.
RINO’s watch out (I’m looking at you Scott Brown).
As for what the CinC should and shouldn’t know. Well, maybe at times it’s best to defer to those who’ve spent their life in the military.
Admiral Mullen…Get those queers out of the closet, into some nice pink fatigues and away we go (altogether now)
I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook
Or the ovation
It’s my world
That I want to have a little pride
My world
And it’s not a place I have to hide in
Life’s not worth a dam
Till I can say
I am what I am
See what I did with the word ‘queers’? I can say that because I’m a leftie. If you’re going to reply, better use ‘homosexual’.
You know how uppity we can get.
There are two issues here. Firstly, Palin is transparently ignorant: of her own nation’s policies, of political theory, of global events, of scientific research – heck, of the very movements she supports. She’s a front; a figure to weave PR around. Thing is, this is neither unique – let’s remember the intellectual amoeba that was George W. Bush – or particularly important: she’d walk to the tune of advisers, anyhow. And while her shtick is nails-on-the-blackboard irritating, all major politicians don narrative cloaks. Anyone want to argue that Obama was really inspired by the word “change“? Essentially, Palin’s rubbish, but we’ve wasted far too much time on her (me more than most, I admit, but others to comical extents: lookin’ at you, Sully).
The one thing I love about Sarah Palin is how dumb she makes her left-wing critics look.
Heh. Yes, keep believing that if you want. I’d like it for more conservatives to believe that so they can carry on supporting her.
Sunny
Game on. According to the pollster.com average, Obama’s disapproval is only 5% lower than Palin’s and the lines are converging. I’m starting to like those odds.
“It is the sheer nastiness of the class snobbery and misogyny among her critics that drives much of her support”
So it’s not her carefully crafted policy positions, her keen intelligence, relentless hard work & meticulous attention to detail then?
Believe me, I’m sure there are lots of folks around the world absolutely rooting for Sarah Palin to become President in 2012 because at that point America would be widely seen as just a sad joke.
If this is the future of politics in the US, this dumbass woman who doesn’t know what being Vice Pres actually involves and who has to write notes on her hand to remember her speech, then for the sake of this country I hope we aren’t headed there too. Please, someone stop Nadine Dorries becoming Tory Leader.
Sunny- this is wrong. Why is it okay to call Palin a ‘retard’ (which is what LC is doing, as the video passes without comment)? This is a disgrace.
Rumbold – watch the video first.
CC – I’m sure you will like the odds – but wait until she’s put under the spotlight and not just hiding behind interviews on Fox News and Tea Party events.
@30
Did you watch the video? It’s okay to call Palin a retard because, by her own logic, it’s being done as satire. Satirically calling someone a retard is A-Okay.
Ah, okay. So standards are set by Palin now?
FFS, I joke about political correctness gone mad, but this is ridiculous. So if someone satirises Palin for being selective about using disablist language, I can’t even use it to point out her hypocrisy?
If the video wasn’t having a go at her for using the word – I’d take on board the point. I think its disablist and I wouldn’t use it. But I used it here deliberately in the way that Stephen Colbert does to make a point.
“There’s no debate of ideas at all, no nuance. Just mud-slinging and insults.”
“If they, and for that matter the Founding Fathers, could see what’s become of the so-called Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, I think they’d be distraught.”
Not entirely convinced. You should try looking up the language used in some of the press and pamphlets around the time of the Federalist Papers.
Is Conservative Cabbie a satire?
I really, really hope so…
