I remind you that as a member of the British and EU Parliaments you also are sworn to uphold the rule of law – whatever the politics of the matter. Your point that Greenpeace is responsible for the sad reality (if true) of old people in the UK burning their books for fuel is sorely misguided as a justification for your insensitive and outrageous comments.

Neither New Zealand nor Mr Pereira’s family are responsible for old people burning books for fuel in the UK as you appear to imply. That is an internal political matter for the UK. Green policies in ascendance in the UK are no business of NZ given Great Britain is a democracy – you draw too long a bow!

Your admitted ignorance of that fact there was a death caused by the French government in the harbour dock of our largest city Auckland is a disingenuous excuse. It was in any event a terrorist act (by a supposedly friendly european power who exported their goods to us) against NZ and all New Zealanders inside their sovereign territory. It foreshadowed state sponsored terrorism all over the world leaving us where we are today.

I also note HM the Queen, Queen of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, is also the Queen of New Zealand and NZ is a Commonwealth country. One would expect better diplomacy from a British parliamentarian given the major export to New Zealand from the UK presently appears to be its citizens seeking a better life.

As an important aside, the bombed Greenpeace boat was docked in NZ as part of its campaign (supported NZ-wide) protesting against French nuclear testing in the South Pacific at Moruroa Atoll – nothing whatsoever to do with the energy crisis unless you wish to support french nuclear testing that harmed on an intergenerational basis thousands of vulnerable islanders of the South Pacific.

Finally, how dare you score cheap political points on the back of your hurtful ignorance! Shame on you. Apologise fulsomely please to all New Zealanders and Mr Pereira’s lovely family and with genuine contrition – and not merely en passant as you did this morning on Morning Report on Radio NZ National on the way to harangueing us about your country’s internal problems that have nothing to do with NZ.
