Exclusive: Screencaps of new Tory campaign video

by Unity

We’ve had our spies out working overtime this week and they’ve surpassed themselves and come up with a gem of an exclusive – the first set of screen captures from the Conservative Party launch video for its upcoming draft education manifesto, which includes a guest appearance by Cameron’s maths Tsar, Carole Vorderman.

We’ll bring you more information as it’s uncovered by our spies, although we understand that this video is expected to carry sponsorship from a leading financial services company…

It should also point out more directly that Voderman got a third… otherwise brilliant!

As Carol Vorderman only got a third at Cambridge, the Maths Tsar would not be allowed to teach maths. Back to the drawing board … who’s coming up with this stuff ? Have Labour got a plant in CCHQ charged with planting dumb ideas in their wee noddles? Cos he’s doing a grand job.

@2 Laban

Maths is more than just adding. Sure, give her 6 numbers and she can get to a target number more often than not, but is she any good with quadratic equations, integration, partial differential equations, matrices etc? I don’t know. Perhaps all she can do is add – that’s why she got a third. I know if I was a headteacher I’d want to know she’s got more maths skills than I’ve seen so far before I let her teach GCSE.

I’m not sure how the Tory policy of ‘minimum 2:1′ matches up with their other message of people getting a second-chance – perhaps that’s where Teach Now comes in. A shame they didn’t talk more about that.

At uni I met monkeys who couldve got a 2.2 – it doesnt say anything about how good a person will be at teaching, only how good they are at getting a 2.2

TORY FAIL

No-one’s suggested that people with thirds ‘won’t be allowed’ to teach. What are you all, illiterate? It is suggested that funds for training should be concentrated on those who get 2.2s and above. And that’s hardly a desperately exclusionary measure either.

In 2006-07, a total of 319,260 degrees were awarded at UK higher education institutions. Of these, 36,645 were firsts, 138,745 upper seconds, 92,795 were lower seconds, 23,195 thirds, and 27,880 candidates failed their degrees with an unclassified result.

So, on those figures, the Tory plans would mean that 7.2% of graduates would, if they wanted to become teachers, have to fund their own training. Epic Fail indeed.

As Carol Vorderman only got a third at Cambridge, the Maths Tsar would not be allowed to teach maths.

Ah, but she went to Cambrdige, which means she’s a genius as far as Gove is concerned, unlike some oik who got a first at Emmerdale Metropolitan.

EPIC IAIN DALE

Yeh but a third just over a decade ago was rather harder to get than a 2.1 today… sigh… Grade inflation the effect of league tables…. Doesn’t do anyone any good.
