Exclusive: Labour ‘happy’ with Cameron spoof site
Sources within the Labour Party are clearly hoping that more of the national media start paying attention to the grass-roots campaign to spoof David Cameron’s posters.
Following on from the wild popularity of the MyDavidCameron website, which was also echoed on LibCon in this popular spoof pictures post, the Labour online team ran with the idea on their website.
A Labour source working on online projects told LibCon today:
We are proud and more than happy to promote campaigns that our supporters online have developed, and give them further publicity. We wanted to give people visiting our site to create their own spoofs. It shows we are responding to what interests our supporters.
The source also told Liberal Conspiracy they were “bemused” by an attempt by Tory blogger Guido Fawkes to spin this as a ‘dirty tricks campaign’.
The more people that talk about our campaign and Cameron’s posters the better really.
The Conservatives have of course done the same in the past, once publishing a poster of Brown and Darling, and another poster later accusing Labour of ‘class war’.
That point was further underscored today in a blog-post on the industry publication Brand Republic’s website.
In a post titled ‘Guido Fawkes gets knickers in a twist over airbrush spoof‘, Gordon MacMillan says:
The Labour Party and its digital team has clearly been paying attention to what it going on in the real world where brands have been doing this kind of thing for a good while.
Adopting ideas from you community is not “stealing” or “devoid” of political ideas it is smart and shows that the party is in touch with, responding to, and engaging with its supporters
…
…I’m sure there will be a note of thanks on the way for keeping the story going and spreading the word about airbrush Dave Cameron.
He then links another real defacement of the Cameron poster:

You couldn’t make this up
He looks quite good with a tache.
They’ll talk of this election strategy for years!
Is David Cameron related to Poirot? I think we should be told, there’s an uncanny resemblance.
He’s a 70s porno star
i’m sure the tories know how easy this would be to spoof.but the target audience aren’t new media savvy types but middle englanders in swing seats-the relatively apolitical “silent majority”. The ones who actually bought blair as a pretty straight guy. And they’ll likely decide the election, though it will be close. Only problem with this campaign-and tory strategy more generally-is that it demonstrates just how entirely the tories rely on cameron. And that is a very short term aim, because once they get in, they won’t be able to protect the utterly charmless and utterly clueless gideon osborne from public view-gove is hardly going to win anyone over with his charm-grayling seems to make a gaffe every other minute even as he’s kept relatively out of the limelight. There’s only so long dave can carry the party on his own.
When are you people at Liberal Conspiracy actually going to grow up?

Crack on,
Sinking to these low depths tells a tale, doesn’t it?
Ordinary people hate politicians and would not trust them to tell the time of day.
I never benefitted from the boom years; for me the country has become infinitely worse.
I hope New Labour do win the election. I want to see ANARCHY on the streets.
5 years of PURE UNADULTERATED MAYHEM should be enough to re-boot Britain.
Then we can actually understand what freedom actually means.
I think what this form of attack at “Dave” shows very clearly, is that Labour are now seriously rattled as they stare at the coming electoral storm, with nothing to offer and a track record that would embarrass any tin pot dictator.
The Tories may not be the solution – but we all know that Labour is most definitely the problem.
Labour have been a disaster for this country – they have managed to ‘out-sleaze’ the last Tory administration by a country mile and are universally perceived as just plain old corrupt. They have LIED and CHEATED their way through 12 long years as they feathered their own nests and expected tax payers money to build them all a property portfolio worth millions, as their God given right.
What was it that the wholly odious Speaker Martin (Labour) said ?
“I didn’t come into politics not to take what is owed to me”
That should be enshrined as the New Labour Mission Statement – I sincerely hope that the people of this country who have previously voted Labour, take a good, long and hard look at their conscience and ask themselves – could they really stomach another 5 more years of abject corruption?
‘Sources within the Labour Party are clearly hoping that more of the national media start paying attention to the grass-roots campaign to spoof David Cameron’s posters.’
Of course they are: New Labour must be pissing themselves. Who cares if they are power crazed authoritarians, war criminals, financial incompetents and thoroughly corrupt – look! Here’s a picture of Camaron with a muzzy!
Jesus wept – this is the level of debate?
Damn shatterface – is that mind control device I have on you that forces you to read everything on this site still working?
I must switch it off – you’ve hardly added anything to the general level of debate for a good few years anyway.
It’s a harmless and amusing activity.
The moustache “defacement” is really nice and subtle – a reference to black-and-white movie villains perhaps?
And I don’t think the Tories can complain.
Remember the Tony Blair “demon eyes” thing?

You miss the point once again, Mr H. Most people come here because they are directed by the popular, well-subscribed blogs: like a car-crash, we can’t resist rubber-necking.
And this really is car-crash politics, is it not?
cjcjc leads us by the land down Memory Lane:
NEW LABOUR – NEW DANGER
Yes, umpteen billion in debt, mass Third World immigration, several meaningless wars and an infinite number of years of Lord Peter Mandelswine and his mortgages and his Patek Philippe watch
