Guido blames Labour for Beau Bo D’or spoof
Guido has an ‘exclusive’ for his readers this morning…
Exclusive : Labour Faked Cameron “Airbrushing”
In response to the last story Guido got a tip-off by a co-conspirator to compare the original Tory poster with the Labour attack poster. The before and after comparison is clear: before on the original poster Dave is wearing heavy make-up but you can still see stubble, lines and skin pores, after Labour have manipulated the picture it looks as if he has been very clumsily airbushed. Deliberate manipulation to make the slogan work…
Labour faked the airbrushing on the spoof Cameron posters?
Really?
That’s funny, because I – and just about everyone else in the left-wing blogosphere who’ve been in on the joke for days – was under the impression that the original spoof poster was Beau Bo D’or’s work…
The moral of the story seems to be that if Guido spent less time listening to ‘co-conspirators’ and more time paying attention to the world around him then he wouldn’t make quite so much of an arse of himself.
Update
As you’ll see in comments, Beau Bo D’or has confirmed that its not his original artwork that’s being used but the template from myDavidCameron.com, which is clearly inspired by Beau Bo’s original Madame Tussards gag.
That’s still good enough for me to credit Beau Bo for coming up with the airbrushed Cameron joke in the first place.

Beau Bo D’or’s airbrushed version is not the same as the airbrushed version that Guido is claiming Labour created. If you compare the two, Beau’s is far more ‘airbrushed’…
I thus beg to differ that Guido has made an arse of himself!
Guido is explicitly accusing Labour of faking the airbrushing on their spoof poster. However, Labour clearly credits myDavidCameron for using their template.
I think you’ll find that the myDavidCameron.com template is their own work. I did my own and airbrushed the face to such an extent to make it very, very obvious. I made it clear I airbrushed the original in my comments :

You are of course talking through your arse. The poster Guido is referring to is on the official Labour website labour.org.uk
Tes Beau Bo D’or has spoofed the poster, so have many others. But this is a deliberate falsehood from a political party on thei official site. If you spent a bit of time checking you wouldn’t have made such an arse of yourself!
more spood posters at here.
So, let’s get this right. You are sneering at Guido because Labour ripped off someone else’s further airbrushed version of the (admittedly stupid) Cameron poster. It’s somehow Guido’s fault that Labour were self-evidently too lazy to use the original source material, and lazily adapted an adaptation. What a strange world of moral absoluted you appear to live in!
BBD,
The relevant points here are:
1. The myDavidCameron poster was clearly inspired by your original spoof.
2. No one is seriously claiming that the myDavidCameron poster hasn’t been airbrushed for effect.
No, Albert, I’m sneering at Guido for stating the fucking obvious and claiming it as an ‘exclusive’, when the joke’s been running for several days.

And don’t you know that Guido MUST BE IGNORED?
(Sunny Hundal, Why Dale and Guido Must Be Ignored, Volumes 1 – 2663528886).
I was the ‘co-conspirator’ – just keen to flag on the email I sent Guido this morning (prompted by his earlier post on the posters) I simply pointed out the difference and suggested it was underhand for the site to offer up a ‘template’ that had been further modified. Beyond referring to the site itself I didn’t say ‘who’ did it…
Cheers Unity.
To me, the most relevant point is Guido’s clear accusation that Labour airbrushed the poster.
Considering Labour directly refer to airbrushing in their version, it would have been wise of them to check and use the original (which IMO has been retouched extensively) rather than myDC’s version.
Both Guido and Labour have shot themselves in the foot on this one.
Ha ha
You cocks
Nice to see Beau Bo still active and up tp mischief
Hilarious!
Liam – not really underhand – it’s obvious that the whole thing is a spoof. We’ve been running spoof posters for weeks. Why can’t Labour do the same?
Though it is funny to watch Paul Staines whine about negative campaigning and offer to give the party some election advice. I think they’re quite happy for the publicity
Thinking more about this – Guido’s desperate attacks go in Labour’s favour. The more the media talks about those posters and the airbrushing, the more it hurts Cameron.
I mean underhand for the site Sunny – I’m not having a pop at Labour or Beau Bo.
Surely this is distracting from today’s big story – The End of Racism!!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8458298.stm
Convenient timing for Labour to have ended racism and be able to focus their attention on the millions of voting age poor white people.

Liam – sorry, you mean they didn’t credit who first came up with the idea?
If that is how easy it is to claim exclusive then I’m gonna’ get me a slice of that pie!
Gosh chaps isn’t this all so tewibly tewibly facinating?
I suppose you should grab every morsel of comfort you can get because it’s 10 years of political bread and driping from June onwards.
Hello troll!
Part of the fun they’re having is with the idea that the image was airbrushed. When they offer up a version for people to add their own slogan too I just think they should acknowledge that that version (whoever actually created it) was even more airbrushed and the Tory original wasn’t that bad.
That’s all. As per our recent twitter conversation I’m probably just being naive and expecting too much of people – ever the optimist.
Labour using the fake airbrushed version of the poster is a foolish risk. Lets say the mainstream media pick up on this, then the Tories can say next time Gordon Brown makes a wisecrack about it,’ No, we didn’t airbrush the picture, it was a Labour fake. More Labour lies, McBride etc…’. Puts the spotlight on Labour dishonesty which is a meme people accept at the moment.
I tried to find the original on the official Conservative website, so I could see how airbrushed it was, and couldn’t find it. Have they already decided to drop the posters from embarrassment?
Meanwhile here are Gordon’s make-up tips:

Is that the best you’ve got?
Labour using the fake airbrushed version of the poster is a foolish risk.
I’m not so sure – the obvious comeback to the ‘fake’ argument is simply to say they we never tried to pretend it was real in the first place and this is all just the usual manufactured outrage that Tories indulge in when faced with an uncomfortable truth.
Whether Brown can sell that argument convincingly or not is open to question, but after seeing the way he handled Paxman, last week, if Mandelson gets involved then it could easily be the Tories that land in the shit for trying to make something of it.
‘And don’t you know that Guido MUST BE IGNORED?
(Sunny Hundal, Why Dale and Guido Must Be Ignored, Volumes 1 – 2663528886).’
You’re forgeting the cross-posts with Pickled Politics which double that number.
Sad to see Unity sucked into Sunny’s petty obsession with other bloggers.
Sunny (and Unity)
“Thinking more about this – Guido’s desperate attacks go in Labour’s favour. The more the media talks about those posters and the airbrushing, the more it hurts Cameron.”
Are you are serious that a media narrative of Labour manipulating images to make a personal attack is a good idea? I’m sure you’re familiar with the poll thumping labour took after the McBride affair. Having the media present Labour as dishonest again is hardly a good idea.
This spoofing of posters online is fun, and often funny (it certainly should bruise a few advertising executives egos). It is not something a political party should be doing, as it just makes them look cheap and opportunistic (as Guido’s first post on the poster says, in his own style). To then manipulate the image, thus making the image ‘a lie’ is going to look manipulative as well. Voters pick up on this sort of thing. I don’t support Labour, but for the sake of a healthy democracy they maybe should stop messing around with photoshop and actually run some positive messages about why we should vote for them.
I doubt this will resonate much beyond a couple of weeks, and if the ‘Labour airbrushed the poster to make it look worse’ line sticks, then it will confuse the message even more.
The wholt thing’s a bit reminiscent of James Purnell’s photoshopping himself into photos of hospital openings. A couple of weeks of hilarity, putting him into the last supper or the meeting at Yalta, and then it all got dull. Anyone else remember that?
Sorry – been a bit caught out by the success of mydavidcameron.com. Have added a (belated) About Us page, which should clear things up:
