BBC admits not being tough enough on BNP

by Newswire

The BBC has admitted Radio 1 was not tough enough when it interviewed two senior British National Party members who said footballer Ashley Cole was “not ethnically British”.

The BBC’s editorial complaints unit has ruled that the programme should not have allowed the pair to appear anonymously, and should have more strongly challenged their concept of British ethnicity.

The interview, broadcast on the station’s Newsbeat programme last year, introduced the men as “two young guys who are members of the BNP”, when in fact they were Mark Collett, the party’s publicity director, and Joseph Barber, in charge of the BNP record label, Great White Records.

During the two-minute interview, conducted by Newsbeat reporter Debbie Randle, Collett and Barber said that Cole, married to singer and The X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, was not “ethnically British”, and spoke of him “coming to this country”, even though he was born in London.

So what is new? They are never tough on genocidal political parties. Of course it is usually the Hard Left they cozy up to, but given the convergence of the two it isn’t much of a surprise they are getting softer on the Hard Right.

Is not about something being new, it is about the BBC not giving the BNP a challenging time. And then you expose yourself as an idiot by making an odd statement about the BBC cozying up with the Hard Left.

What tosh.

Should the BBC be hard on a legitimate politial party (sorry, but I do not believe they have banned; unfortunately they even appear to have elected representatives)? Seems rather to defeat the object of impartiality to me. I think most people might spot Ashley Cole is British (famously – he was Arsenal’s token English born player for a while), and that the BNP members were racists. The clue was in the ‘BNP members’ bit, and what they said.

But is appears that an editorial line of letting people decide these people are idiots on their own is not enough. Presumably we have to be told by someone who, however well intentioned, will come across as preaching to some people who will then gain sympathy for the BNP…

Incidentally, why does a successful (if treacherous) international football star need to be identified as married to someone? Doesn’t seem relevant to the story. And isn’t Cheryl Cole also a recording artist and member of the group Girls Aloud? If we need the extra information, why is that not in there?

No harder than it is on any other but not marking out the positions of the two men, as it would do with any other party, was an error and as we know, with the more extreme political views, they should be more robustly interrogated.

And of course no one needs telling what to think, you seem to have jumped to conclusions Watchman yet again, along with the idea that all ideas are of equal merit and have to be tolerated as such.

As for your odd obsession with the detail of the story re: X-Factor, that’s what the Guardian put in there, does it offend you?

“Militant” was a word with a specific meaning long before the Labour faction adopted it in the 1980s, Sullivan, you ridiculous caricature of a twat.

As for “So Much For Subtlety”: So much for reality, more like.

So when was the last time the SWP, or Workers’ Power, or the AWL, or any “Hard Left” group was on Newsnight or Question Time, genius?

IS IT A CRIME TO STATE THAT YOU BELIEVE IN BALANCE IN ALL THINGS, IT IS IF YOU ARE THE BNP,THAT THE NUMBER OF ISLAMISTS SHOULD BE THE SAME AS THE NUMBER OF CHRISTAINS IN MECCA,
IS IT A CRIME TO HAVE BLACK HYBRIDS IN THE BNP THAT HAVE 40 EYE COLOUR 60 HAIR COLOURS,RATHER THAN JUST ALLOW THE BLACKS ,TO BREED WHITE PEOPLE OUT OF EXISTANCE, VIR THERE NEGRO EBONY NAZI , GENETIC DOMINANCE, WHICH IS THE REVERSE OF WHAT HITLER TRYED TO IMPLERMENT, IF (ZY)+2 IS TRUE THEN(YX)-2 IS RIGHT. THE GREAT CRIME OF THE BBC WAS TO ASSUME THAT MORAL TRUTH IS MATHS TRUTH= ORWELL FREEDOM IS THE RIGHT TO SAY 2+2=4

GREEK THOUGHT MATTER +MIND + MATHS=PLATONIC LOGIC

Wow, extreme racist CAPS LOCK blues.
