Climate Change – Those hacked emails
To reiterate John’s point about the relative plausibility of conspiracy theories based on the hacked CRU mails, Dave Cole has forwarded this video, which really does make the point very well…

Clearly what’s interesting about the mails is what they do not show, as much as what they do.
So, in amongst all the professional jealousy, trying to hide null results, intemperate language, and FOI-violations, we see a group of scientists that clearly do believe in their work. There’s no sense of a hoax or conspiracy here.
However, when people see scientists behaving in a rum fashion, a subconscious but very human desire to suppress their cognitive dissonance notwithstanding, alarm bells do start ringing, and it certainly increases the chances people will start thinking they’re wrong.
Interestingly, a clear majority does not thing the planet is getting warm and that it’s completely or largely our fault. PR disasters like this one, coupled with the planet’s stubborn refusal to get hotter recently, will mean that scepticism about AGW will only increase. A reality warmists will have to learn to adapt to by reining in their sanctimony.
Is this “Troll Bait Friday” or something?
Awesome video
Yes, it is. It’s worth subscribing to Potholer54′s channel – he’s done a few good videos.
What a good video.
We’re still fucked though.
Climate change is happening, and we’re not going to stop it.
Writing is on the wall. I wish I was a Limbaugh-Beck Ostrich. The view from inside the sand pile must be nice.
So why not try T.S. Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Me thinks you will find power and motivation in science do matter.
Given that he had the motivation of discrediting science, and, judging by all the explicitly anti-science pomo right-wingers around these days, seems to have had the power to do so, I’m not sure how believing in the truth of what he discovered is consistent with believing in the truth of what he discovered.
5 Paul – Climate change is happening, and we’re not going to stop it
Do you mean that there is nothing we CAN do about it, or that there is nothing that we WILL do about it?
Unity,
Thanks for putting that video up. A voice of sanity in a sea of noise.
Another video gores the sceptic zombie. One to file alongside the “climate video climate deniers tried to ban” at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_0-gX7aUKk
which did for the WattsupWiththat cult.
That really is an excellent video.
Dunc:
The trolls here need no bait to begin trolling, trust me.

[...] AGW is a case study par excellence. If 95% of the science says AGW is a fact, then a truly balanced media representation would give the Ostriches 5% of coverage. But they get a lot more than that, and not just due to Fraser Nelson’s attention-seeking at The Spectator. Because “balance” demands that both sides of the story get a hearing, and because a debate sells but depressing facts about how we’re headed for disaster don’t, virtually all mainstream media has been guilty of fuelling AGW Ostrichism. Even when people like Ed Miliband put the boot in and explain why there is no debate about AGM (skip to 24mins), it’s already too late because the illusion of debate has been created. Meanwhile, this excellent video languishes online, rather than being the lead news item on every broadcast outlet. (h/t) [...]
