Watch: Fox News pushes global warming denialism
Extolling his widely known scientific credentials, Fox News host rubbishes global warming by saying it was the codest year on record. The two are not always related.

Fox News. Unbelievable.
Well it’s all a side issue, given that we’re now all doomed.
http://theorator2009.blogspot.com/2009/11/were-doomed.html
DOOMED, I TELL YOU, DOOMED!
Ignore the self-proclaimed independent voice of reason speaking truth to power…
Yeah – God forbid anyone would allow debate around here.
It’s just that your tag line and attitude makes me laugh, that’s all and connecting your own thoughts on global warming with FAUX NEWS isn’t a good connection to make is it?
Yeah – God forbid anyone would allow debate around here.
Mocking idiots is not actually the same as suppressing free speech.
Dunc,
“Ignore the self-proclaimed independent voice of reason speaking truth to power…”
That’s not mocking, that’s silencing. Which is a favoured tactic of the Fascist and their co-idealogues, the Communists.
And OK – even if it is mocking it’s not exaclty the same as suppressing free speech, but anyone with a basic knowledge of Saul Alinksy knows that’s the ultimate aim (http://www.crossroad.to/Quotes/communism/alinsky.htm).
“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.”
Are you saying that any old idiot should be able to post any old rubbish, and nobody should be allowed to point out when they’re talking bollocks? Perhaps you’re arguing that every opinion is a precious and unique snowflake which must always be respected, no matter what? Who’s trying to silence whom here?
Bonus points for “he Fascist and their co-idealogues, the Communists”, you muppet.
Whoops! I did it again.
Then, of course, there’s also the minor point that The Orator’s linked post contains no substantive argument, only mockery… Are you saying that his mockery is fine, but our mockery of his mockery is an unacceptable infringement of free speech? What exactly are the rules on mockery that you’d like to see? Don’t you believe in free speech? Or is it only free speech for people with the right opinions (i.e. those compatible with your ideology)?
AHEM! There was a substantive point in my post, namely that if Gordon Brown is to be believed – i.e. there is no plan B and we only have until early December to save the world – then we are all DOOMED. Did you miss that?
Sorry, I assumed from your tone that you were mocking his hyperbole, not taking it as gospel truth. My mistake. It’s not often you meet someone who thinks GB’s pronouncements on complex scientific issues are absolutely accurate. You have my sympathies.
Ah, so people didn’t actually believe Brown’s doom-mongering then. I hadn’t realised that, I thought people bought into this enviromentalism.
So there is a hidden political motive behind these greens, which brings us back to the watermelons – Green on the outside, Red when you look below the surface.
http://theorator2009.blogspot.com/2009/11/watermelon-environmentalists-get-new.html
Globally this year is shaping up to be the hottest on record. The US is having a particularly cold year but as it accounts for about 2% of the earth’s surface that doesn’t really mean very much.
Still nice to see a nice balanced debate with all sides of the argument represented. Ahem.
EPIC ORATOR FAIL!
The Orator,
Orator? You have got to be joking.
The orator never jokes for he is the voice of reason speaking TRUTH to POWER!!!!
Orator,
I love to see recycled political quotes.
“Green on the outside, Red when you look below the surface”. Brilliant.
No-one has said that to me since 1987.
Put it this way: I’d rather look like a watermelon than a baboon’s bottom.
Sleep well
Richard
Quite right. Fuck off, “Orator”, you’re completely pointless because you say nothing that 1001 trolls haven’t said before.
I’ve heard this argument before:
“It’s hotter than last year – it’s global warning”
“It’s colder than last year – er it’s still global warming”
It’s actually been getting colder year on year, for the past decade, but don’t tell anyone or you’ll be called “a denier” and your penace will be to eat only organic, fair trade mung beans, and travel only by bicycle, for a whole year……………
Matt,
It’s been getting colder year on year, for the past decade,
but warmer, decade on decade, for the last century.
Can you point to which statement, in your opinion, is more significant in terms of indicating global climatic trends?
Thank you
Richard
Matt,
I pointed out that this year could be the hotest on record to show that Fox have their basic facts wrong. I wouldn’t claim this as proof of global warming – no one would make that claim based on a single year, not even on a whole decade. You have to look at the long term trend and, as Richard points out, that is upwards. What’s more, it’s not true that it’s been getting colder year on year in the last decade, for example 2005 was pretty close to 1998, which was the hottest on record. What we did see was a sharp drop in 2008 due to the La Nina of that year but as I have pointed out that will be reversed this year.
Also this only refers to surface temperatures, the oceans have still been warming over the last decade, as has the troposphere.
It’s actually been getting colder year on year, for the past decade
No, it most definitely hasn’t. 2005 is in a statistical tie with 1998 as the hottest year ever recorded.
Faux News can’t tell the difference between ‘weather’ and ‘climate’.
‘The Orator’ is a very silly little man.
Such things are beyond dispute.
“Such things are beyond dispute.”
And some such things are made up:
Global warming not being one of them Jack, we have that cleared up at least.
