On Saturday the Daily Mail ran this story: ‘Migrant found dead in the back of a lorry as it prepares to enter Channel Tunnel‘
The corpse of an illegal migrant who was desperate to get to Britain was today found in the back of a lorry preparing to enter the Channel Tunnel. French Immigration Minister Eric Besson said the grim discovery highlighted the ‘insane risks’ which foreigners are taking to get to the UK so that they can claim asylum or disappear into the black economy.
Mr Besson said he was certain that the unnamed man had paid a people smuggler hundreds of pounds for a quick passage to his ‘Eldorado’. Instead the migrant got an airless, cramped compartment in an HGV which ultimately cost him his life.
Given its daily demonisation of immigrants and asylum seekers as “scroungers”, you won’t be surprised to hear that Daily Mail readers weren’t that sympathetic.
But the comments were too appalling even for the Daily Mail. Some of the top rated comments were:
one down, millions to go
- crackers, yorkshire, 31/10/2009 2:42Good news. One less to worry about!
- keith jones, porthcawl, south wales, 30/10/2009 22:13Shame but I would be a hypocrit if I said I was sorry!
- Nanny B, West Sussex, 30/10/2009 17:42
All the top comments in order of popularity were celebrating the death of the immigrant, according to a post by 5 Chinese Crackers.
He captured the top-rated comments in an image here.
Clearly embarrassed its own readers did not have much sympathy for the dead immigrant, today the Daily Mail deleted most of the comments apart from 2.
Mail Online advertisers must be thrilled they’re next to such content.

This was a man effectively murdered to suit to prejudices of racist scum.
*shudder*

I agree with DHG entirely.
Nobody should be surprised at the type of sub human scum that read this Tory rag. Two weeks ago this same paper where calling Griffin all sorts of names, but the readership are unable to hide their true colours for long. What I find depressing is not so much the comments themselves, (you may as well be appalled that a two day old puppy has shat on the rug), but this is the paper that our political classes use as a bell weather to measure policy against. This is typical of their readership. Next time you wonder where you stand on any given issue and you cannot decide which side to plump for, look at the comments at the Mail, that will help you decide.
I have at various points of life, been called ‘PC’, Looney Left, Communist, Marxist etc. But I can say that I will gladly welcome those labels as long as it separates me from this filth.
“one down, millions to go”
And here we have all been raking over Europe looking for Nazi sympathisers connected to the Tory Party.
Something happened here as when I looked around midday all the ‘kill ‘em all’ comments had large red arrows (100+). Did the BNP flag this?
What is more disturbing is that comments on the Daily Hitler site are pre-moderated pretty rigorously for soundness.
Considering that semi-Liberal comments have been deemed unsuitable and filtered out, this is… shocking.
Why aren’t I shocked?
Spoke to some Spaniards today and they were shocked when I told them what the Daily Mail’s circulation is. Apparently even the most right wing Spanish paper (and that’s the Franco nostalgics) doesn’t go as far. Larvely.
Daily Mail: Filthy right wing propaganda and nothing more. This just confirms what we already know about its readership.
I really don’t think the Daily Mail has an agenda beyond pretending they share the rage of their readership while actually doing their best to cultivate it.
