The BBC’s “fawning” interview with Osborne
The BBC was accused of a “fawning” interview with shadow chancellor George Osborne by Ben Bradshaw.
The culture minister said on Twitter:
Another [sic] wholly feeble and biased Today programme rounded off with a fawning interview with a Tory pundit!!
A BBC spokesperson said:
Suggesting your political opponents are somehow getting an easier ride from broadcasters is something that has always been part of politics.
The shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt, without a hint of irony, told the Guardian that Bradshaw was interfering in the BBC’s day-to-day coverage:
He seems to be aspiring to Alastair Campbell’s role rather than that of a culture secretary.
Only a week ago Hunt himself said the BBC should recruit more Tories.

That’s hypocrisy and stupidity at its very highest by Hunt.
Attacked by Labour and the Conservatives in the space of a week.
*lil tear. Never been more proud of the BBC.
What’s the matter Sunny? . . . Don’t like it when the boots on the other foot eh?
Perhaps the BBC (like everyone else in the country) are ‘repositioning’ themselves to take into account the composition of the next government.
Here’s a clue . . . . It won’t be Labour.
No one wants to vote for an overtly corrupt and sleazy party like Labour – God knows what the Tories are going to do when they’re in, but they do have one massive advantage . . . . . . . . . . They’re NOT Labour!
@3 Silent Hunter: Come on, now. “The boot’s on the other foot”? The BBC was in no way biased in favour of Labour, and no “repositioning” is required; the free ride for the Conservatives has always been there.
And you speak of Labour’s sleaze as if the Conservatives weren’t the ones claiming the most, by a massive margin, and then benefiting from the scandal through spin alone.
Well a Labour minister posted it on Twitter.
Can’t get more reliable than that.
Meanwhile, image of the Madonna found in burnt toast: Dawkins recants evil ways.
“Only a week ago Hunt himself said the BBC should recruit more Tories.”
No he didn’t. http://www.jeremyhunt.org/blogshow.aspx?ref=199
There’s no point criticising the Right for using smear tactics if you’re just going to use them yourself.
“There’s no point criticising the Right for using smear tactics if you’re just going to use them yourself.”
A somewhat hypocritical complaint given Hunt’s repetition of the now standard distortion of Andrew Marr’s remark on bias.
btw is that his real name or is it rhyming slang?
Does anyone actually give a toss what Ben Bradshaw thinks?
You’ve got to judge every claim of bias on its merits. Most of the time the claims come from selective hearing .
But I listened to that interview and it’s true that by the Today programmes standard’s it was a very soft interview from Evan Davis.I mean is anyone denying that?
I’ve also noticed how Gordon Brown seems to get a much tougher time from the BBC than Tony Blair did and David Cameron does now.
“I’ve also noticed how Gordon Brown seems to get a much tougher time from the BBC than Tony Blair did and David Cameron does now.”
Yes that’s because Brown doesn’t have an Alistair Campbell working with him. Say what you like about Campbell, but at least he got the media to toe the line.
