Totally overshadowed by the issue of Europe! What fantastic luck!

If only the Tories realised how utterly wrong they are about the EU. However it’s hard to overturn 30 years of anti-European brainwashing in a few short days.

Germany’s Christian Democrat CDU party, triumphant in the country’s recent general election, has downgraded relations with the Conservatives.

The change follows David Cameron’s decision to remove his party’s MEPs from the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament.

To repeat, it is the Tories’ problem if they have unsavory friends. But I will say, with respect to the difference between their membership of the EPP and ECR, that they created the latter group themselves, actively scouted for members, and negotiated with those who sought to join. Because they made the ECR, they ought to be judged by it.

Praguetory: We are in a grouping that believes that the individual nations of Europe should decide for themselves how to govern themselves Fair enough, but one would have to bear in mind that about 90% of that grouping comes from just three countries, and you've a clutch of one-man bands to keep on board to maintain 'group' status (link) - hence that little awkward business with the Latvians.

We are in a grouping that believes that the individual nations of Europe should decide for themselves how to govern themselves. That’s why we want questions concerning the cultural-ethic aspects of life be treated and decided by the states themselves, without any intervention from EU. We are not in a grouping to agree on every domestic policy. It’s because we know that there is a range of opinion that we believe we need reform in Europe.

By the way, I know plenty of members of our old grouping the EPP with what you would consider similarly unacceptable views.
