Watch: Osborne caught out on tax claims

by Sunny Hundal

1. He claims that these are new figures when they were published already.

2. He doesn’t seem to understand that tax receipts are projected to go up because the economy is expected to recover eventually, and that’s what happens to tax then.

Well done to Adam Boulton for putting him on the spot, though Osborne tries his best to get away without answering specific questions.

Not exactly new news?

2. Alfred T Mahan

I wouldn’t be too scathing. Tax receipts may very well not recover. Our economy has been based on borrowing to consume and since we we will all have to reduce borrowing in future the size of the economy must necessarily shrink. Tax revenues won’t equal those of 2007 in real terms for least a decade if you rely purely on economic recovery.

“He claims that these are new figures when they were published already”

They were not published already. The totals were published, but not the breakdown. This is an imprtant difference.

“He doesn’t seem to understand that tax receipts are projected to go up because the economy is expected to recover eventually, and that’s what happens to tax then.”

Yes he does. He’s even said that. What he saying is that growth doesn’t appear to acount for ALL the increase in income tax.

Now we’ve got that out the way, I do agree with you that Osborne always looks shifty. I’ve always been slightly wary of what he says.

Sorry to repeat but that is an EPIC DALE and Ozzy got OWND!

They were published. Getting percentages from figures already published isn’t new or any revelations. Get over it.

Osborne is the best politician in the country this year, well according to GQ.

Shocking.

Osborne well and truly exposed for his lies.
