Daily Mail wants Nigerian criminals to remain in Britain

by Jamie Sport

In a surprising U-turn, The Daily Mail said yesterday that instead of being sent back where they came from, Nigerian criminals should remain in Britain to take your job and rob your house.

Confusion erupted as the newspaper more commonly associated with its pro- ‘put-them-all-on-the-first-banana-boat-back-to-Africa’ stance on immigration also decided it would rather spend more taxpayers’ money keeping brown nogoodniks here than save cash by helping to build a dedicated facility in some far-off African land where they could be pleasantly forgotten about.

Currently there are around 400 Nigerian convicts festering in UK jails who can’t be deported thanks to absurd EU laws designed to protect their ‘human rights’. Amnesty International claims that the country’s jail conditions are ‘appalling’ and extraditions could be successfully fought by arguing conditions are inhumane.

But proposals from the the UK Border Agency would see 400 criminals relocated to a ‘comfortable’ purpose built facility costing the British taxpayer a staggering £1million. Female chief executive Lin Homer claims that the deal to work alongside African authorities in constructing a prison with ‘acceptable’ standards would actually save money by stemming a drain on British penal resources. The cost of keeping prisoners in UK cells is £30,000 per year – or £12million per year for a job lot of 400 Nigerians.

Completely ignoring the £11million pound saving to be made, Matthew Elliott of the TaxPayers’ Alliance hooted: ‘It’s an absolute scandal that British taxpayers may foot the bill for a Nigerian prison’, before scurrying back under his limpet encrusted rock in a crab-like fashion to look for detritus to feed on.

A confused local man said: ‘This is outrageous political correctness gone bonkers. If anything, we should be encouraging more Nigerians to come here to sleep with our wives and claim benefits. I think it’s disgraceful that the Government is spending less money while simultaneously easing the strain on our overcrowded jails – especially at the height of a recession. Additionally, I wish the BBC would increase the licence fee.’

I agree with the confused local man, I, too, remember a time when political correctness was far more sane. But I will stray on one point, when they bring back Kilroy, then I’ll consider paying double my licence fee.

Why don’t we just pay for them to be kettled in Nigeria? This would be far cheaper and wouldn’t infringe on their rights to protest for rights. We wouldn’t have to pay for land to build a jail because there are no property rights in Africa and if they did pass laws of ownership we can move the whole cordon a little to the left and everybody’s happy.

The other positive benefit is that we’d be able to send a whole load of our police officers over there and not see them again for some considerable time.

Is the out-sourcing principle to be extended to ALL nationalities whenever the indigenous cost of porridge falls below that of the UK’s £30k pa?

Incidentally, if a nick WAS to be built in Lagos, or anywhere else for that matter, would British jurisprudence still apply – or are the crims to be repatriated at the same time?

Perhaps it might be cheaper, and legally less complex, to incarcerate all the Lagos bound cons on a modest sized island (off Scotland or Wales, say).
Then we could introduce a shiver of white sharks into the local waters (using advanced breeding techniques) thus reducing the risk of disgruntled offenders swimming back to the mainland.

Not only would such a project be cost effective but it would stimulate local industry as well making environmental sense for the endangered maneaters?

That’s probably the best idea to ease prison overcrowding I’ve ever heard. Kills, like, three birds with one stone too!

Don’t forget the cost of lasers to put on the shark’s heads though. Britain’s laser manufacturing industry could with a boost, mind you.

Hee he, Jamie – lasers? ………… now you’re getting silly ;o)

But out-sourcing is a pertinent question?

Hospitals out-source medical records, and I believe banks and insurance companies utilise communication technology to staff some of their services in places like India, or even Scotchland?

If prisons are to be out-sourced, then why not entire legal proceedings – think how much could be saved on gargantuan UK legal fees?

I know it’s the Mail but …………..

Let me see if I get this right – Nigerians come into Britain illegally, infringe on a British person’s human rights, are found guilty and then cannot be sent back to Nigeria as their own human rights would be infringed apon. So instead of keeping them here in prison as it is so expensive, the powers that be want to build a special prison for these prisoners in Nigeria at the expense of the British taxpayer. All this at a time of Recession.

Obviously the Daily Mail says no. It is ridiculous. They should just be sent back to Nigeria

I am Nigerian and do find the idea of deporting Nigerian criminals acceptable. However, my only concern is that it is common practice to use the Nigerian umbrella to cover individuals that in reality come from a variety of African background. What worries me is that verifying the true background of those who claim to be Nigerian in addition to all the other contingencies inherent in making this program feasible might cost the British taxpayer highly. Subsequently I can foresee shortcuts being taken to minimize the impact on the taxpayer the result of which could then create the human rights violation of the criminal feared.
