you’ll find many reputable Islamic voices arguing that democracy is anti-Allah – because obeying his way is the only right way to run things; not the silly of idea asking people what they would like… blasphemy!

So on the whole, tending-to-violence Muslim parties I guess will not participate in democracy, but errr tend-to-violence.

But some do use the language of democracy, and I wonder, in the light of the expenses situation, whether many Muslims would feel obliged to vote for a Sharia Law party, if there was a national party of that name?

It’s an interesting comparison -an extremist and tending to violence group the BNP try to gain credibility by claiming to be part of a recognised religious group (Christianity),but basically fail, as too many mainstream christians and organisations stand up and say no-way-Hose. And there are no quotes of Jesus that back the BNP case. (New Testament says that ‘we are all equal; using the people categories relevant to that time: slave and free, male and female, jew and gentile etc).

Whereas extremist and tending to violent groups that claim Mohammed as inspiration and their example to copy – are able largely to do so, because no mainstream islamic scholar can deny the things Mohammed did (eg behead hundreds of un-armed Jewish prisoners), or said (commanded a fighting jihad as the best path for all Muslims).

What makes me laugh about the BNP’s claim to represent “Christian values” (whatever they are) is that some of the most fervent Christians in Britain are, erm, black.

And here’s the other thing – I bet the socially conservative values of those black Christian churches is closer to the BNP than that of mainstream Anglicans.

What makes me laugh about the BNP’s claim to represent “Christian values” (whatever they are) is that some of the most fervent Christians in Britain are, erm, black. A lot of them are recently arrived immigrants who are packing into churches that whites stopped attending long ago.

Hmm. Well Jesus did say ‘render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s', which seems pretty good advice to me.

Perhaps our ‘leading churchmen’ should consider this when wading into debates which are essentially political.. If you know what I mean.
