Tory Wintertons jump before being pushed
From the Telegraph:
Sir Nicholas and Ann Winterton, the Conservative MPs, are to resign from parliament at the next election. The couple will not run for re-election as the MPs for Macclesfield and Congleton.
…
Their decision comes after the Telegraph disclosed that they claimed more than £80,000 in rent for a small London flat that was owned by a trust controlled by their children. Expenses submitted by Sir Nicholas show he claimed for £41,508 in rent. His wife’s claims amounted to £41,584.

The tory who should go is the one who is married to the tory MP who said he would stand down on Friday. I mean have you seen her pushing her pram outside Parliament, she looks like some ghastly single mother scrounging off the state. Oh wait……..
She is scrounging off the state.
Methinks the Tories will be relieved to see the backs of these two.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer couple.
Thumbs up!
Astounding news: a 71- and 68-year-old will not stand for another five year term?? Who’d've thought…
An interesting conundrum for David Cameron, nonetheless. On Sunday, he promises that candidate selection will be open to all comers and that more primaries will be conducted. On Monday, he has a great opportunity in two of the Conservative party’s safest seats to explore his ideas.
I fancy Macclesfield for myself (and family) as a guest Tory, but feel free to apply for the Congleton primaries. Without a shadow of a doubt, Cheshire will be represented by two independent minded Conservative MPs.

It’s a stunt really, and even Tim Montgomerie on ConHome says the same…
I knew that it was a bad idea to have such a long rent on my campaign lodgings…
Of course whereas the others are all saying “I’ll pay it all back” this pair walk of into the sunset smiling……
The standards were set for Cheshire Tories by Neil Hamilton. By comparison Nick is a saint. The ideal Tory for the 1970s.
At least they’ll finally be able to expound upon their shared love of the racially insenstive joke without fear of further jeapordising their careers.
Cestrian golf courses are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
The Tories’ attempt at open primaries in Bethnal Green and Bow was a disaster:
