Her blog seems to be down - by order of CCHQ and JustCallMeDave perhaps?

I believe we are witnessing the beginning of the end of Nadine Dorries. Someone should make a Downfall video with subtitles just for her to mark the occasion.

"I’ll say one thing for Nadine Dorries. She is, quite literally, the gift that keeps on giving."

Oh come on, at least say something that makes sense.

She's not "quite literally" a gift that keeps giving, is she? IS SHE? Because that would require her to be a magical Toys-R-Us Christmas item.

This is on a par with "Tony Blair is literally walking into the history books". Which must have hurt.

OK, pedantry aside, good post. But stop abusing the word literaly. Literaly.

<a HREF="http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/may/22/mps-expenses-conservatives" rel="nofollow">Cameron on Dorries:</a>

<blockquote>"Of course MPs are concerned about what is happening but, frankly, MPs ought to be concerned about what their constituents think and ought to be worrying about the people who put us where we are," Cameron told the BBC.</blockquote>

Meanwhile:

<blockquote>There was clear anger among Tory high command at the latest intervention by the outspoken Mid Bedfordshire MP, with one senior source describing her comments as "completely wacky".</blockquote>

Maybe they're all part of the conspiracy too?

Speaking as someone who knows, you know, deep in the heart of the UKIP press office, the idea that the Telgraph is backing UKIP is absurd. We actually get better treatment from The Guardian.

No, I'm not saying that the Guardian supports UKIP, just that they'll correct errors, report facts rather than slanting them, for UKIP rather better than the Telegraph will.

Weird but true.

Nurse Zarathustra's lack of pay rises were very directly related to the MP's Additional Costs Allowance - I think Dorries was very accurate in her description of the Additional Costs Allowance: It was a secret £24 k payment to MP's , so that in public they could claim "we should all tighten our belts", and hold down public sector pay, whilst in private loosen them a notch or two (or three or four): Basically the Additional Costs Allowance was a trick to try and bamboozle public sector workers into accepting pay restraint : Thatcher started this in the mid 1980's, while Labour expanded on it by increasing and broadening the ACA. the only odd thing is that Dorries cannot see what is wrong with a pay rise the MPs' knew about, that some journos knew about, but was secret from the public

<i>Dorries is a Labour plant, you heard it here first.</i>

Yike! Call Mulder and Scully!

But is Agent Dorries aware that she actually is a plant - has she lost her true identity after so long under deep cover? Is she in reality the MP for Manchuria Central and not Mid-Narnia?

The latest from Dorries' blog (McCarthy to Gitmo in one morning) -

The technique deployed by the Telegraph, picking off a few MPs each day, emailing at 12 giving five hours notice to reply, recording the conversation, not allowing them to speak, shouting over them when they try to explain, telling them they are going to publish anyway, at day 15, is amounting to a form of torture and may have serious consequences.

I particularly liked her claim on Radio Five Live this morning that "MPs don't have a right of reply" - this not just coming mere seconds after she mentioned how they all live in dread of the Telegraph's afternoon phonecall, but also utterly ignoring the fact that MPs are exempt from the laws of slander and libel in the Commons chamber, so have more protection than anyone else in the country when it comes to giving a robust defence.

By the by, though I do think that the full-on conspiracy theory is a bit much, I do wonder if a less anti-EU newspaper might have held back on publishing allegations that were bound to have a major impact on public political opinion until after the upcoming elections. Because it IS going to be the eurosceptic parties - be it UKIP and the BNP on the right or the Greens and no2eu on the left - that are most likely to benefit from this.

Dorries:

<blockquote>Another rumour is that the disc was never acquired and sold by an amateur, but it was in fact a long term undercover operation run by the Telegraph for some considerable time, carefully planned and executed; and that the stories of the naive disc nabber ringing the news desk in an attempt to sell the stolen information are entirely the work of gossip and fiction.</blockquote>

You mean like <a HREF="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8UKLtJFKhg&feature=related" rel="nofollow">Mission: Impossible</a> - only without Tom Cruise. Or a cool theme tune. Or any evidence that any of this actually happened. Meanwhile Dorries deliberately misdirects the media with her 'MP Suicide Watch' claim (but then - all together now - if they've nothing to hide...).

Nadine Dorries will self-destruct in five seconds...

You mean like Mission: Impossible – only without Tom Cruise. Or a cool theme tune. Or any evidence that any of this actually happened. Meanwhile Dorries deliberately misdirects the media with her ‘MP Suicide Watch’ claim (but then – all together now – if they’ve nothing to hide…).

Nadine Dorries will self-destruct in five seconds…

I have to say I have always been a little uncomfortable with your anti-Dorries campaign, but hearing her this morning I realised that you have been right all along.
Simply barking.

Excellent piece. The chronicling of the public political suicide of the vile 'mother of three from a council house in Liverpool' ought to be a stark warning for others who 'fancy having a go' at politics.

It doesn't matter how daft (or corrupt) Dorries is - the aftermath of the expenses scandal is, in effect, be the final nail in Broo'ns coffin.

Oh, I know they're all at it, but over time the lions share of the blame will be heaped on the shoulders of an already discredited government.

I have an ominous feeling that we will have to get used to Dorries - we can expect a few more gifts yet?

Slippery slope, that. Ikea light fittings today, chandeliers tomorrow, duck ponds the day after.
