Britons much more liberal towards abortion
British voters are more likely than Americans to consider themselves pro-choice on abortion, but both countries have roughly the same attitudes towards same sex marriages, a new transatlantic PoliticsHome study reveals.
Voters in each country were polled on their attitudes towards abortion and same sex marriage.
67% of UK voters considered themselves pro-choice, compared to only 52% of Americans.
In the UK, attitudes on abortion were consistent across political divides, with a proportion of roughly two thirds thinking of themselves as pro choice throughout the political spectrum.

good, if unsurprising, news. data broken down for n ireland would be interesting – if majority in favour there, increased justification for Westminster to overrule the mad bigots in stormont.
What this report doesn’t show is that the US has far more liberalised abortion laws than the UK.
The UK has a 24 week limit.
To be ‘pro-choice’ in the US is to be against the partial birth abortion ban.
It can mean something different in the UK. In the UK we have many pro ‘abortion on demand’ people – who will only think abortion to be appropriate up to a certain point.
Likewise, in both countries many people think that being pro abortion in cases of rape and incest makes you pro choice – which is not true.
But then, why get facts when we can have politics instead.
