Telegraph.co.uk hacked; hasn’t told users yet

by Sunny Hundal

Softpedia reports that the Telegraph.co.uk was compromised by an anonymous hacker, exposing that its security is so lax that details of its 700,000 registered users can be accessed fairly easily. Someone from Trend Micro advised that:

…if you are a Telegraph subscriber and are concerned about the safety of any other online accounts you may have I would encourage you to change your passwords on those other accounts, and of course on the Telegraph web site.

via Schmoo. People usually have similar passwords for their different accounts, so their details may already be compromised. The problem of course is that Telegraph.co.uk haven’t yet, as far as I can see, informed their users and asked them to change their passwords yet. Many of our readers are unlikely to be Telegraph readers but, you know, just saying.
Update: Telegraph technologists post a response.

I set up an account there after a discussion here, was seeing how bad the site was and if it was subvertible.

The answer was a) awful and b) possibly, but given a) far too much hassle to put any effort into.

Guess I’d better find out what details I gave them then, probably one of my lesser default passwords.

A statement by Paul Cheesbrough, chief information officer for Telegraph Media Group

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/shane_richmond/blog/2009/03/09/hackersblog_and_telegraphcouk

says the problem was restricted to one partner blog search.property.telegraph.co.uk.

No need to update your article, it was just another lazy contribution to LC.

“No need to update your article, it was just another lazy contribution to LC.”

Then why do you bother coming on here troll?

If you take The torygraphs word on anything then you are barking mad.
