Enough’s Enough campaign

by Newswire

The independent campaign group Enough’s Enough yesterday took out a full page advert in The Times newpaper to highlight a new campaign for more lobbying transparency. It is part of the ‘Alliance for Lobbying Transparency’ coalition, which also includes Spinwatch, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Unlock Democracy.

In early January the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee published a report calling for tighter rules on how lobbyists operate and called for a mandatory register of lobbying activity so we can keep a closer eye on how lobbyists operate. Unlock Democracy gave evidence to the Select Committee in the preparation of the report.

You can help the campaign by:
1. Write to your MP and ask them to sign EDM 563: Register of Lobbyists.
2. Join the new Facebook pressure group.
3. Invite your friends to do the same.

Sorry the Alliance for Lobbying Transprency?

The people who refuse to reveal how they are funded? Can you think of anything more hypocritical?

GREENPEACE?

The people who have just had an auto-mailing script on their website last week that sent an email to 57 MPs when any random member of the public fills in a web form and clicks a button, thus causing a Point of Order to be raised in the House by a Member of Parliament who *agreed* with the alleged aim of their lobbying wrt the Third Runwa or ?

See: http://tinyurl.com/greenpeacelobby

Thus repeating the incandescent lightbulb trick from 2 years ago where they did the same with Euro MPs.

Sorry, but the credibility of such a grouping involving Greenpeace is zero. I’ll think about it when they have been thrown out or stopped spamming MPs.

Hmm… didn’t realise so much of Unlock Democracy’s funding came from government sources. Potential conflict of interest? Still at least they appear relatively transparent.

Do they? According to their website…

The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency is coordinated by SpinWatch with a grant from the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, through its Power and Responsibility programme. ALT also receives support and resources from coalition members [who are listed]. Please visit member websites for how they are funded.

Greenpeace…ugh.
