Libdems want white phosphorous inquiry

by Newswire

Commenting on news reports that the headquarters of the UN aid agency in Gaza has been hit by white phosphorous fired by Israeli forces, Libdem Shadow Foreign Secretary Edward Davey called for the government to demand an explanation.

He said:

The Israeli military has been claiming it is not using illegal munitions, but this appears to be damning evidence that it has been breaching international law by firing white phosphorous into civilian areas.

No civilised country has any excuse for using this horrific weapon in built-up areas where it is bound to hit innocent civilians.

David Miliband must call in the Israeli ambassador to demand an explanation for what appears to be a flagrant breach of international law.

Good stuff!

The West appearing so in thrall to Israel is really not doing us any favours, at home or abroad.

Its disheartening that this is probably seen as quite an extreme position. Meaning that the use of flesh disintegrating chemical warfare is totally acceptable to “moderates”…
