According to Politico, the chances of Jeb Bush running for the Senate in 2010 are very real.
Republican Mel Martinez has indicated that he will not seek a second term as one of the Senators from Florida, opening the door for the popular former governor to return to high-profile politics.
Unlike his idiot brother, Jeb is actually a very capable statesman. He left the governorship with stellar approval ratings and is considered something of a political “rockstar” among GOP ranks. 2012 may be too soon, but who would bet against another Bush ticket in the Presidential campaign of 2016? Not me, that’s for sure.
One of the key demographic swings of the recent election was the Latino embrace of the Democrats (traditionally a strong GOP voting block). As Spanish-speaking Americans continue to increase their number, both parties will double their efforts to capture their imagination. Jeb Bush is very well regarded among Latinos and this should increase his appeal to GOP party mandarins.
Jeb was always most gifted of the Bush progeny, but the question remains as to whether his moron of a brother has ruined the family brand permanently?
One to watch.

Gee – the prospect of a dynastic political feud continues: Jeb is going to make us forget all about Dubya, whose presidency was all about Daddy in the first place (’Hell, at least I served two terms!’) So when does Chelsea Clinton start running for office?
So when does Chelsea Clinton start running for office?
Hmmm. The rumours were that one of Hillary’s demands was that Chelsea be brought into Obama’s team at some point down the road.
Some good points here Aaron, re: how Jeb might be needed to re-connect hispanics with the GOP.
But here’s the thing: that was supposed to be Mel Martinez’s job. He was appointed head of the RNC in (I think) 2006, after the mid-terms showed a strong hispanic swing to the Democrats. The problem was that the anti-immigrant base of the party hated him, helped kill the immigration bill he helped to construct and then continued to pursue a witch hunt against hispanic immigrants. The result was that even after nominating a Republican who was friendly to hispanics, two thirds of them still went for Obama.
I’d agree that Jeb Bush is a much better politician than his brother, but I’m not sure he’s enough of a miracle worker to undo the damage

Well, he’ll not be alone. There is conservative media machine which will help tarnish Obama and tear at the Dems.
Well, h connected Florida Hispanics with himself, but that doesn’t mean Hispanics across the country will. Furthermore, he couldn’t deliver Florida to McCain, despite McCain being fairly pro-immigration.
TBH, right now the Republicans are still ga-ga over Sarah Palin. Did anyone see that the Republican senator who just won said it was thanks to Palin? I love it…let the woman carry on being bigged up and let her destroy the party or take it to another defeat.
Well ,seeing as Jeb was running Florida in 2000, and was responsible for the PURGING of the voter rolls of blacks and the complicated nature of the ballot paper, I think people should understand that he did everything he could to make GW president.
Jeb gave us his idiot brother. And their policy beliefs are identical. So Jeb might be able to put two sentences together unlike his brother, but the politics will be exactly the same.
Yeah I heard about Saxby Chambliss. He probably needs to go clean himself up.
Who knows re. Palin in ‘12?
But give the rightwing attack dogs, commentators and lawyers (not to mention the already concerned liberal base) 4-years with Obama, and then pass judgement.
Glenn Greenwald had a good article on political nepotism a few days ago….
“That we now treat Presidents like Kings and expect them to exercise similar powers is consistent with the broader trend whereby we are ruled by a Versailles on the Potomac, with all the bloated, decadent insularity that implies.“
“There is conservative media machine which will help tarnish Obama and tear at the Dems.”
Nah, they’ll dig the “bipartisan” approach.
“There is conservative media machine which will help tarnish Obama and tear at the Dems.”
Possibly, but Obama is a very skilled operator. He isn’t as lame as Kerry or Gore
“Possibly, but Obama is a very skilled operator. He isn’t as lame as Kerry or Gore”
While that is true Sunny, however, the media in the US is ludicrously biased to the Right. The media have been asleep for the last 8 years, and now will awake to resume the coverage they gave to Clinton.
Bush’s approval ratings have not been anywhere near 50% for 4 years, but if you arrived from planet zog and watched the American media you would not have known how unpopular he was.
Just as when Clinton was impeached, he had ratings of 70%. You would never have know watching American news.
“He isn’t as lame as Kerry or Gore”
Painfully true. And how do you blockquote on this site?
And how do you blockquote on this site?
You type in “blockquote”, then the text you’re quoting, and finish with “/blockquote”, but replacing the quotation marks with these things ().
Sorry, I’m sure there was a better way of explaining that…
but replacing the quotation marks with these things
By ‘these things’ I mean those little arrow things (<), which probably have technical names, but will have to make do with being called ‘things’ for now.
() Thank you ()
Oh…dear…

Scroll down to the subheading “quick tags” and it has a fairly comprehensive list. At the very least, it’ll be more helpful than me!
