Andrew Gilligan’s employer promoting holocaust denial

You may remember I exposed Andrew Gilligan’s hypocrisy two weeks when I pointed out he also worked for the television channel Press TV, funded by the Iranian government.

Andrew Gilligan likes to make a great deal of noise about how he’s such a progressive and left-wing journalist…yada yada. He even commented in that blog-post stating:

The fact is – leftwingers can be liars and phonies too, and any journalist worthy of the name will sink his teeth into the leg of anyone who deserves it, regardless of their political views. And that, I suppose, is the difference between us.

Thank you for giving me the license to write this update then…

Last month Unity wrote ‘Sieg Heil-De-Heil‘, about holocaust denier Dr Nicholas Kollerstrom, who had been outed first by quarsan at Blairwatch. Others including Rachel North also picked up on it.

That led to University College London, where Dr Nicholas Kollerstrom was an Honorary Research Fellow in UCL Science & Technology Studies, ditching him faster than you could say ‘crack-pot’.

Guess where Kollerstorm is now being given a free reign to spread his views. Oh yeah, the nice people at Press TV have been very obliging.

The article, which can be read from here, was published yesterday. Hat-tip to Unity.

I wonder when Andrew Gilligan will have him as a guest on his show on Press TV. Maybe they could debate once again whether the “alleged massacre of Jewish people” was “scientifically impossible” or not? There’s nothing wrong with working on the side for an organisation that publishes and supports a bit of anti-semitism and Holocaust denial is there?

Don’t forget, readers, that ‘award-winning journalists’ like Gilligan bestow legitimacy on outfits like Press TV, which is nothing but a mouthpiece of Ahmadinejad.

With regards to his excellent journalism, you can also see this post by Tom (and a related comment by Dave Hill), which ends with:

The article then degenerates into a series of meaningless statistics intended to give the impression that the city adminstration is costing a fortune without mentioning that it’s actually doing a lot more, too. I get the impression Gilligan can knock this stuff out in his sleep. Award-winning my arse.

Bollocks to him. If you want good journalism go to bloggers. Here are three. If you don’t like them I have others. Unlike Associated Newspapers, they don’t have highly lucrative contracts with Transport for London to distribute crappy freesheets at Tube stations coming up for renewal in 2 years time.

OMG! How dare anyone suggest Gilligan would compromise his journalistic integrity if someone was willing to employ him for their own agenda?

Martin Bright pops up on Press TV as well. Perhaps the whole Ken smear campaign was Tehran ordered?

Yvonne Roberts also hosts a show on that channel. Is she an anti-Ken Holocaust denier as well? Or is there a certain partiality being shown here?

>>> Or is there a certain partiality being shown here?

Have we ever suggested that we’re the BBC?

No one has suggested that Gilligan is personally a Holocaust denier or that he, or Roberts, Bright, Ollie Kamm, yourself or anyone else who’s appeared/due to appear on the station, agrees with the editorial line taken by the station.

In fact, we can absolutely certain that Kamm will disagree, as he blogged the Kollerstrom not longer after UCL took the decision to cut him loose.

The question here is one of both the professional judgement of those journalists who’ve taken on contracted roles with the station and of the extent to which the station may or may not permit its presenters to follow an independent editorial line.

Both Roberts and Gilligan may well be unhappy to see the manner in which the station has chosen to put over the Kollerstrom story, but are they free to say so? And, if not, how do they view that in terms of their personal and professional integrity as journalists and their future association with the station.

Martin Bright pops up on Press TV as well.

There’s a difference between a contributer, and an employee isn’t there?

If you want to equate Yvonne Ridley with Andrew Gilligan go right ahead.

“Yvonne Ridley” Ooops! I’m on the show next week and I’d got the two mixed up. Y. Roberts is the CiF traditional feminist in hte Polly/ Maddy line, isn’t she? Y. Ridley is the one who converted and joined Respect or something?

Ah, so its Ridley rather Roberts…

What are you planning to debate? Stockholm syndrome?

“Globalisation” so I’m told.

Yes, that Yvonna Ridley. If Andrew Gilligan wants her as his co-host then he’s welcome.

Yes, the gulf of opinion between the authors of ‘Where Did Our Love Go? – Reviving a marriage in 12 months’ and ‘In the Hands of the Taliban: Her Extraordinary Story’ is not inconsiderable.

“Ah, so its Ridley rather Roberts…”

Thank god for that, I thought I’d entered some bizarre parallel universe for a minute.

No, you’ll find the entrance to that at http://www.dorries.org.uk/Blog.aspx – the only place you can get to Narnia without using a wardrobe.
