It’s a busy day here on Liberal Conspiracy, so we just have room for a couple of quick highlights.

Mark Mills – Why you don’t need to be selfish to believe in capitalism.

Liberal Democrat Voice – Labour’s secret donor: what the law says

Clairwil – It has to be a conspiracy………

Action-without-theory – R.E.S.P.E.C.T. – D.I.V.O.R.C.E.

I think Mark Mills is largely attacking a strawman (strawwoman?) here. The reality of our world is that the people who have most influence over “capitalism” in our society are those in the top echelons of corporations and politics.

And amongst those echelons, those who have read Rand (and largely like her) outnumber those who have even read Adam Smith by 2 to 1 or more.

It’s no accident that the “Adam Smith Institute” is full of people who quote from a small subsection of “Wealth of Nations” all the time (and indeed appear not to have read The Theory of Moral Sentiments) despite having both books on their site…
